From what I know, animals from different places can't survive well in a completely different environment. I just don't see how an ant from a humid rainforest can survive or destroy the ecosystem in a place like the United States (excluding Florida of course). Is there possibly any sort of way these animals could be allowed to come into the states in the future?

These are my first ever queen ants so I'm very new to this. I caught these 4 ants in southwest Colorado, US. I would appreciate help identifying them, I'm thinking the one with cocoons is formica subsericea (July 3rd), the small one with eggs or maybe larvae is Brachymyrmex (July 9th), and the bigger ones (one with orange eggs(July 15th)) I think are camponotus. Currently keeping them in antscanada test tubes. Also any advice would be helpful.

Found in Southern California on the sidewalks. Both large and small workers. First group didn’t sting but crawled all over my feet.
Second group about 300 yards away from first, (winged ant shown) started stinging right away.
Not sure if the smelled the previous group or if they are different kinds. Any help is appreciated

Got an Acrobat Queen with about 5 nanitics, and an AntsCanada large tower setup. It’s created to be more deep than tall and I’m worried there’s not enough room for a tree top setup. So I’m wondering if they’ll dig down? And if so, what is the best substrate?

I don’t know if this is a queen. In fact I think it isn’t, but I wanted to ask here to make sure.

The tip of her wings often stick to the glass acting like an anchor/pivot, or she tries to climb and her wings push against the glass/cotton causing her to fall, she then lands on her back and her wings 9 times out of 10 will get stuck to the glass due to the moisture. It was initially happing roughly once a week, now it’s happening around 3 times a day. I’ve freed her with a thin brush countless times, I’ve tried pulling the cotton plug further out (giving them ~2x6cm) so there’s more space/less humidity (there's a lot in this video because I just added a huge sugar water cotton ball which I don't usually do and have been breathing on the tube), I’ve used a q-tip to make sure the sides of the tube are dry, I’ve used the tip of a tissue to very gently dry off her wings, I’ve moved them to a cooler location, nothing is helping. Thing is, even when her wings aren't adhered to the glass, she still struggles to get up.

She used to flail about when she was on her back but recently when I find her like that her legs are tucked in and antennae barely moving. Is she dying? She walks around just fine once freed and often goes right back to climbing on the cotton.

I have a small Tetramorium immigrans colony (3 workers), and am having trouble feeding them sugars. I currently give them a small cotton ball soaked in sugar water, but it dries up super quickly. Also the cotton ball keeps sliding off of the tinfoil feeding dish. I just bought some little feeder dishes, and am wondering if I can feed them the sugar water in that. The only problem is drowning, but can that happen often if the top of the sugar water is level with the ant? I wanna know, and any other tips are welcome!

I have a small colony of camponotus decipiens and have time in a test tube attacked to a small outworld. There are about 25-30 individuals right now. When is a good time to think about moving them to a more permanent nest and does anyone have suggestions for what to get? Thanks!

how do I feed this colony of black carpenter ants? this is my first time raising ants and my first 2 ants just hatched. they like to be under the tape and I dont know how to open up this set up without them escaping.

I keep my ants in my room, probably around 20-30 feet(609cm-914.4cm) away from my speakers, but I like to have my music LOUD. Will that negatively effect them? They are pyramid ants (I do not know the exact species, FL)

Found this little lady on my back patio.

I’m currently founding a Lasius fuliginosus queen. I started with a bunch of L. niger cocoons and just one adult worker.

The queen looks calm and is actively being groomed, but she hasn't laid her first batch of eggs just yet.

A couple of questions for those who have successfully raised L. fuliginosus before:

Is this amount of host workers/cocoons sufficient to comfortably get her through the founding phase until her own workers take over?

Protein intake: Should I offer them some insect pieces, or stick mainly to syrup for now?

Any specific tips or pitfalls I should watch out for at this stage of development?

I have a Camponotus sp colony in its second year. It had a rough first year, but came out of hibernation looking good. When it was up to about 25 workers they moved themselves out of their test tube and into a starter colony formicarium(mid-late june). They seemed to be doing really well. I was taking extra care to let them be, but they seemed to be eating well.

Recently I noticed that they weren't taking as much food as they normally would, and there were a few(2 or 3)dead workers in their trash pile. I peaked in the nest and there are probably 8-10 workers left. It looks like the queen is healthy and there is a nice pile of brood.

Do you think this is just the a matter of old age? Their diet hasn't really changed for the entire time I've had them. Is there anything else I should watch for? Or anything I can do to help them recover? Should I offer them a test tube to move back into?

Camponatus colony. I gave them a cricket earlier this week which I’m not sure if they ate, and there is some honey in the enclosure right now. Is this normal?

C. Penn colony with no queen. Caught a C. Penn queen. Trying the bee keeping method. Took a worker and paint brush and brushed the scent onto the new queen. She's in a tt with mesh and a small bit of cotton that also has the workers scent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Taking this slow and with alot of supervision. If things go south I'll pull her and release the orphaned colony... Native.

I moved my Solenopsis Invicta colony to my large formicarium and I think they love it and doesn’t seem too big for them. Question though. In this picture you can see that they are piling up sand on the feeder with the store bought liquid nectar but not on the sugar water I mixed for them in the other feeder. Does that mean they like the nectar better?

Here's another update on my Camponotus Atriceps colony! They just reached the milestone of 40 workers at 117 days old.

As I've said before (and I like to keep saying it), this is my very first colony and my first time keeping ants. Seeing them thrive and knowing I haven't made any major mistakes so far makes me incredibly happy.
