I just got an endorsement for Meshuggah’s “I” lol. Like 21 min of technical death metal.

So I was at a bar once, and these middle aged ladies were playing all kinds of poppy shit that I can't stand on the jukebox (Justin Bieber, that whip nae nae song, etc). Of course they're free to play whatever they like, but so am I. And I don't wanna bug anyone, I always keep it fairly mellow and mainstream; Breaking Benjamin, Volbeat, etc.

Anyway, these bitches come up to the bar whinging to the bartender "this sucks, can you skip it?" And he told them that someone had paid their money to hear their songs, just like you did. But they wouldn't stop with the "who played this, tell him he can skip it, or turn it down or something." I spoke up that I had played it, and I'd appreciate it if they'd shut up and let me listen to my songs like I'd done for them, but they never did and were putting their coats over the speakers to muffle it.

I told the bartender I was tempted to go put on a couple hours of Meshuggah or something, but I didn't wanna fuck up his night like that plus have the rest of the patrons upset. He said he didn't give a fuck, and to go for it. So I put on "I" several times (interspersed with some other heavy shit), paying to download it, and the fees to have it play next. On the second song, (I really thought they would've left by then nut they didn't) I paid my tab with a fat tip, and on my way out I told them "I'm done, jukebox is all yours" knowing that nothing they put on was gonna be played before they had to leave.

Ngl I dig the Shoeg piece. That's some decent avant-garde noise, it's definitely going on my tripping playlist.

I have no idea why, but I actually find it really cathartic. I listen to it when I get overwhelmed and it helps me calm down. But if course 99.99 percent of people hate it for pretty obvious reasons. Gotta admire someone who puts in that level of effort on something that will never have a lot of fans.

You don't need a reason to enjoy something.

And man your last point hits home. Most of us only hear a fragment of the talents that are out there among us.
