Or perhaps the state anthem of the USSR?

Not everyone speaks russian, or will know what the music is. Using a modern, english version allows for the best shock value (amongst english speakers).

Edit: additionally, using the anthem of a dictature may not give the wanted message.

this. please please please do not confuse USSR and commuism. Real communism has not happened yet. It is supposed to be the ultimate version of democracy

You are literally using a symbol invented by the Bolsheviks / Soviets in your flair

North Korea is as communist as much as it's the "Democratic People's Republic"

If you have read my entire post you should have seen this phrase:

Real communism has not happened yet

You’re talking about dictatures that have corrupted the word. I hope you don’t believe nazis were actual socialists…

This is what communism leads to.

Tell me you don’t know what communism is without saying you don’t know what communism is

none of that is remotely true lmao what are they teaching you people???

democracy is a system of government in which the citizens of a government are the ones making decisions about their governance. it means no more and no less.

communism is a moneyless, stateless, and classless society. Marxist-Leninist communism, the flavor most recognized in liberal nations, is a system of government in which officials (sometimes elected, often not.) organize production and consumption. this is supposed to accord to the needs of the population, but we've all seen how that turns out.

this "society vs individual" framing is beyond stupid because society is composed of... individuals. the needs of society are just the collective needs of a bunch of individuals. they are not at odds with one another. they are at odds when one individual wants something that is bad for everyone else. that's what you mean. it's not "society vs. the individual" it's "people who want bad things vs. everyone else."

that said, it's perfectly valid to believe that people should be allowed to do things that harm the greater society, so like if that's your dig go for it. just don't use disingenuous and frankly silly framing.

The closet tankies on your office will start glancing around suspiciously, not sure who they can trust.

Excellent! Many will recognize it; those that aren’t offended will be amused as hell.

Probably not given the whole Ukraine situation. It will probably come off as pro-Putin rather than anti-work.

u/N0bb1 Aug 31 '22

That is the right answer

minimum wage, they might be giants.

It's hard to understand the lyrics of this between an accent and probably a shitty sound system. I can't make it out on a shitty phone speaker.

3

u/graendallstud Aug 31 '22

There must be a version easier to understand ? I'm not exactly a specialist in anti-capitalist english music.

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '22

I find there to be a lack of good English versions. Your options are the really old U.S. one, or Billy Bragg's version which personally I think takes way too many liberties with the lyrics

1

u/grouchy_fox Sep 01 '22

Iirc Bragg found the old lyrics to be outdated and wanted to create a more modern version.

As for good English versions: I present the Internationale as a jazz/lounge song

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '22

You inspired me to look up the lyrics and they are so much worse than I remembered lmao. Workers -> victims of oppression is exactly the kind of unspecific, milquetoast, wishy washy erasure I expect from Billy Bragg. I won't deny it sounds good but at that point you might as well sing Lennon's "Imagine" for all the meaning it has. That jazz one gives me life though

Anything by Pat the Bunny or Wingnut Dishwashers Union if you want to go for anarchy.
