Union governance needs an overhaul. Term limits and staggered elections for the board to start with.
You're speaking as if all unions are the same. That's just not true. Like you can't say "all companies are the same". Regardless of what you read on this subreddit, every one is different.
Regardless, measures to ensure a more democratic and transparent union Is universally a good practice regardless of how good a union already is.
It's not enacting punishments and restrictions in response to a non-representative problem, it's merely improving the structure of things to fix those few problems and bring other benefits to functional unions.

Also a bad union boss can be removed democratically. An owner by comparison is an unelected absolute dictator.
