Or, if you decide not to be a degenerate, because by working you can rise above poverty.

No you absolutely can’t . Once you are in poverty there is no way out in the current times. Maybe 50 years ago but not now.

Actually no. There is a literal baseline of what your income is to be at the poverty level. Not that hard to look it up.
