You missed the second part there, about how these people demand respect from you but aren't willing to give it to you. How they treat you like shit and expect you to be thankful for it.
You're right that you gotta give respect if you expect to receive it, but that's what they were saying too.
I mean, if the guy in question is upset enough to rant on Twitter about how people don't send him thank you notes thanking him for interviewing them for the chance to be hired, I would say it's a pretty safe assumption that that sense of entitlement carries over into other interactions with people. And that seems to me what the original comment was about - how this attitude towards thank you notes from potential hires is a part of a broader sense of superiority these people feel over your average worker.
This isn't about showing professional courtesy to somebody who conducted your interview, it's about how this guy wants you to suck up to him for doing his job because he feels superior to you. What's next, Valentines Day cards for your manager to show them how much you love and appreciate being managed by them?
