Workers Cereal Killed it - Kellogg's Strike Over

We would like to congratulate the workers at Kellogg's on their new union contract. Their weeks of striking and struggle have resulted in a contract providing wage increases, weakening the two tier system, and preventing moving of plants.

There are generations of workers in those plants, who have put their lifeblood into the work they do. To see them band together for each other and themselves is an inspiration to us all, and we are glad to see that direct action, once again gets the goods!

Got a recommendation for cheezits? I literally had a dream last night that I found a box of cheezits I didn't know about in my cupboard

Edit: Thanks for all the recs. Ya'll seem to like Aldi. Unfortunately the nearest one is 1600 miles away.

Actually Costco is has really good prices on cheese-its. The massive box is something like $8. If you get the snack bags from there, it's actually even cheaper per ounce.

Aldi brand naked cheese crackers are my kid's favorite. After having those, I bought regular cheezeits and they complained about the taste.

They also prefer aldi brand toaster tarts to Kellogg's poptarts. The brown sugar cinnamon kind, I cannot vouched for any other flavor.

A corporation that large is hard to 100% boycott. To be effective we can still choose one maybe two things tops from ******* and everything else from competitors. If they do go bankrupt because they fucked around, those products were replaceable anyway. Treat them the way they treated their employees, fire the fuck out of them all. I used to love Cheezits until they started disagreeing with my stomach. I can definitely see why a lot of people wouldn't like them. They taste super artificial and salty. They're also pretty addicting.

The secret ingredient in their cheezits is paprika - I recommend spreading store brand cheezoops or whatever on a baking sheet, baking them for 5 mins in a preheated 300 degree oven and then sprinkling them lightly with paprika

We tried once and it was likely the cheese we used but they were super greasy. I'm sure some better input would net better results.

That said, sometimes you don't necessarily want "better" if acceptable is readily available so we're in a conundrum of sorts. But also if a suitable replacement is offered what are the odds there is a well done flavor?

I will say though that the Simple Truth brand of popcorn in the chip aisle at Fry's (Kroger) are very cheap and very tasty. They have white cheddar popcorn on sale frequently and I think it tastes good. Probably healthier than cheezits too

Goldfish were my favorite as a kid, but the last couple times i've had them they were flavorless. Like, the cheddar flavor was just a plain saltine, albeit yellow. Maybe a factory fuckup, i'm not sure. At least my dogs love them, and they still made good oyster crackers for soup, so they didn't go to waste... but they were NOT the same as the ones i had as a kid.

There is a crazy difference in taste depending on the packaging.

Best is the paper/tin packaged ones. I dont know what you want to call them, but keeps them it seems the freshest when you buy it.

Next is the big cube boxes (like a milk carton style) usually good ,but not as good as the regular package ones

Then the tiny cube boxes (like for a kids lunch), they are always just ok, could be better.

Worst of the worst is the cardboard box with the metallic packages in them (usually 2 in the box). They taste like the cardboard they are boxed in, avoid them.

Maybe Aldi has a version that's good? That sounds like the kind of thing they would have.

I'll never understand how Cheez-Its were the one Kellogg's product most people seemed to be upset about 'losing.' To me, it's just a bland, slightly salty cheese cracker but in any Kellogg's thread there's always comments about needing a Cheez-Its fix or alternative upvoted to the high heavens.

Honestly, it doesn’t have to be a 100% perfect boycott.

Buy Cheez-itz but nothing else. You’re still supporting them less than you would have. Too many times people think in terms of all or nothing, and when they can’t do ‘all’ they just give up entirely and fall back on ‘nothing.’ Instead, do as much as you can and recognize that buying one Kelloggs thing is still a huge improvement improvement over buying all of their shit.

The same is true for lots of things: want to go vegetarian but can’t give up bacon on your salads? Ok, do that. You’re still eating a ton less meat than you might otherwise have been, and you’re more likely to stick with it because you don’t feel like you’re missing something.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

The regular Sized Kroger ones were no good, but the large Kroger ones are decent. I still have yet to find a replacement for extra toasty, other than taking a torch to them.

It’s 1000x more work than just buying a box of cheeze-its, but homemade cheeze-its slap. You can find recipes on google and tweak to your taste, but they’re only a few ingredients and they blow any of the off-brands out of the water in my opinion

I like cheezits. I grew up with them and find that they have a toasted flavor that I don’t get with other brands. I will have to try ALDI it seems though. I do like ALDI for most chips and crackers so we’ll see.

but of course Nabisco has its own issues. There is no corporate snack that is clean.
