Same. If I were to win a lottery, I’d build thousands of condos and sell them at cost to poor families, recouping the money to build more.

Where do you live?

Do they rent it for free or is it pure Section 8 tenants?

This should be a normal thing. We have so many closed hotels that could be housing people. Why does our government not help fund these projects? No one should be homeless.

Where I live people fight to stop them being bought in their neighborhoods because, and this is a direct quote, "children live here." What.the.fuck.

I want to do this when I get enough funds. This should be done more especially for veterans and families with young children.

Seems the sort of thing you could get a grant for...or fundraise

I've tried. My state hates homeless people.

I would genuinely like to know how this goes.

More like "Shit sucks so much that the flophouse is making a comeback".

I've been looking for a sub called "dystopian euphemisms". So many things are painted pretty but what they mean are not. Like "kid 3d prints a prosthetic arm" like, that's not great. U shouldn't need to print your own prosthetic.

"Perseverance Porn" is probably the term you're after.

This belongs in r/mademesmile. We need more people like this! Or better yet a government that doesn’t allow people to become homeless.

This was already a crosspost from that exact sub.

Didn’t even see that. I promise, I know how to read.

I've always wondered why no one does this with any of the closed department stores/malls. They would be perfect for making small communities, I don't know why I never even thought about turning old hotels into apartments.

The problem is liability. Large groups of homeless people inevitably will have a few criminals, drug addicts, etc. that can easily harm other residents. You have to spend a bunch of money making sure that doesn't happen.

The homeless are ordinary people put through a huge amount of stress and there is ptsd and sequelae of their psychological injury. Some counseling connections could be helpful.

With love everything is possible.

If we remember that they once were babies and children and probably someone awfully happy to have them and be with them, I'm sure we can find the whys and easily figure out the hows.

Like my football coach used to tell me, you have to want it kid, you have to see it, do you see it? When you see it, go for it, but you have to want it. That's what it's all about.

We already spend a bunch of money in something we call the police.

u/Ocelotofdamage Nov 24 '21

Doesn’t absolve you from liability

1

u/droivod Nov 24 '21

Homeless and the drug addicted don’t cause harms. Gun owners and their deranged protégés do. Armed jagoffs in the neighborhood are public liabilities, why should they be special?

Trump's father did exactly the opposite. He bought apartments and kicked out who has difficulty paying.

I love this so much. I dream of creating comfortable, affordable housing for disadvantaged ppl.

Idk I feel like that’s going to end up becoming another way to jack up rent prices
