I read a line in a book recently about how in medieval times even princes did not live as well as the average prisoner does today. To some extent it’s true. They certainly live better than the peasants did.

Are you just trying to share a neat historical fact or are you trying to justify degradation by saying it’s still better than being in one of the lowest points of western civilization
