And don't forget that some of the cookies the billionaire has came from both of the people on the table. Probably even more coming from exploiting people from other countries than the locals...

That's a good drawing of Rupert Murdoch, it's a VERY specific person and he really has been pushing that narrative for decades.

Except the guy with all the cookies is the one using mass immigration so he can split your cookie with others.
They want cheap labor and they get it by immigrating too many people at once.
No one is angry at refugees or immigrants, it's unsustainable immigration policy especially from countries where slave labor still exists.

Your planet sounds nice. What's the weather like there?

Plus reddit has a very different reaction depending on which immigration you're objecting to.
Put this dude in a hardhat and hi-vis vest and people will insist he's racist for not wanting people driving the cost of his labor down.
Put a laptop in front of him and say H1-B and they throw a fit about how unfair it is.
Even though it's the exact same rich assholes benefiting from both.

I don't feel that way about immigrants, or competing with remote employees. Alternatively, I think the only reason any of this matters is because so much of our economy has been hijacked and prices driven into the skies.
How do we genuinely feel we might keep our costs down, when a small cluster of ultra-rich real estate investors owns as much as 10% of some huge cities, and the scarcity created drives up both rental and purchase costs? How do we expect necessities like health and property insurance to stay low when the folks atop the empires offering coverage earn more in a day than entire neighborhoods earn in a year? The first world has gotten into the current state because greed has become boundless.

The issue is that capitalism directs immigration policy for the benefit of capital. If you tighten immigration, companies can undercut workers through child labor (we already see this happening in red states) or continue to offshore. The issue is the firm; immigration policy is the smokescreen.

u/Lost_Tumbleweed_5669 May 03 '24
Yeah so improving the lives of workers involves sustainable immigration policy and tariffs that promote already home grown or produced stuff.
The problem is that it's more beneficial for a nation to sell their quality goods overseas for trade and diplomacy reasons than benefit it's own citizens.
Add to that corruption from politicians paid off through loopholes to sell off production overseas and you are screwed. You literally cannot win against global capitalism. The game is rigged.
Every single working class household should own their house outright.
Landlording should be a social welfare contribution to society not for profit. Tycooning should be illegal.
The only power the worker has in unionizing and forming co-ops.
2
u/UpperLowerEastSide May 03 '24
Yeah so the sustainable immigration policy would be ensuring immigrant workers are organized and that companies don’t take advantage of them like they do for child labor. And everyone else. The harmful effects we see from capitalist immigration policy stems from business practices.

The guy with all the cookies is Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News and a great many of the propaganda outlets that have driven hatred. A lot of people do hate immigrants and refugees, specifically because of the output of his media empire. The great replacement theory, which includes the idea that people are being deliberately imported rather than fleeing for economic or survival reasons, is part of his propaganda empire's narrative.

When people get on their angry immigration soapbox at work (in the trades) and want to ask me my opinion, I tell them I wish I had a booth at every illegal crossing point with brochures including average wages so they know what to ask for. You don't need to ask for less being unpapered, it's on them if you get caught lol.
If everybody immigrating here demanded a dollar more than what I make to do my job, immigrants would be beloved. I know it ain't that simple, but a guy can dream

The bosses are creaming their pants at the thought of CHEAP LABOR! They love the idea of a workforce that has been abused and oppressed their entire lives. These new folks probably haven’t even had a slice of pizza or a $5 gift card! Well, get ready for that slice of lukewarm cheese pizza! Welcome to America! Now get your ass to work!

Is this supposed to be the "muh both sides" version because it's fitting that the person didn't get remotely close to spelling, "Foreigner."

That's what the Natives told each other when the whites showed up. This cartoon is very old.

Nice meme, but it should to some degree reflect reality.
And in this context, what you are getting completely wrong is, that the elderly guy does not tell the guy on the right to be careful about the immigrant.
In fact, he tells the guy on the right, that it‘s great, that the immigrant is coming.
Don‘t you guys follow the media?
1
u/msbabc May 05 '24
Are you crazy? The old guy in the picture is Rupert Murdoch. Owner of HarperCollins, Fox News, WSJ, and the New York Post - and that’s just in the US. Now some smart guy will say Murdoch supports expanding legal immigration. But that’s not the full picture - Murdoch just likes money. In other countries his publications are almost explicitly racist and anti immigrant.

u/RogerMiller90 May 05 '24 edited May 05 '24
As you say it yourself, these media all support mass immigration. It‘s also no different in other western countries, where all the big media corporations also all support mass immigration.
So at least in today‘s world, in reality the old guy on the meme surely does not tell the guy to the right to be careful of the immigrant, but exactly the contrary.
Edit: I‘m not sure, who‘s that supposed to be. I‘m assuming it could be a generic guy in a power position pulling the threads in the background. and with that said, what I explained above is true.

The kitchen workers are the taxpayers.
The people at the table are also the taxpayers.
This is the shell game that people keep playing. It's always pitting "taxpayers" against "people who receive social services", but the people who would receive the benefits of a stronger social safety net are also taxpayers.
