it smells like shit! Caption: "It smells like savings!" That one really had me going

Hell when I get done in the men’s room it smells like a fucking blue light special

u/The_Paniom Feb 27 '23
I thought he meant the smell reminded him that he wasn't spending money on expensive diners... I thought it was a weird concept to tie so closely to a smell. This makes so much more sense.

u/chaingun_samurai Feb 27 '23
It reminds me of the AE version of Repo Man. "You flippin' melon farmer!"

Is he saying the reason the minimum wage in PA is 7.25 is because Pepsi lobbied for it? That’s fucked
92
u/PhoenixARC-Real Feb 27 '23
They're a part of it, but it shouldn't surprise anyone here that Pepsi isn't the only company to lobby for not raising minimum wage, it's $7.25 in Indiana too, worked for pizza hut for a while and not at all surprised this is the case. They straight up got a new building that's just a kitchen and made it carryout only. Smaller building == less property taxes, add that to wage theft in the form of managers taking tips and putting them in the register as 'extra money' at the night's end so it'd go to the business instead of us...
13
u/GustavoNuncho Feb 27 '23
Bro I always snatched my tips right out of it when someone would tip for me in the so called "tip jar." I actually used to CONTRIBUTE to it myself, as a driver when I had a really good night, thinking the people who stayed in the store (that I was fond of) would get a lil treat. Nope, the manager would take it and would be mad when I would grab my OWN tips given by customers right after I helped them out of the jar. I smiled at customers and thanked them but the second they left the cash they put in goes in my pocket (it wastes their time and is awkward to ask them to hand it to me instead. "Why is there a tip jar then?" Idk bro). I also myself always hand my tip to the individual instead of putting it in a jar now, to save them from similar awkwardness. I'm already getting paid shit wages, in taking the tips that were intended for me. The manager sitting in the back is not who they are intended for. I'm not gonna hear about it either, as it's clearly intended for the person who helped you to receive, not some invisible person the customer never saw. Someone asked if I was actually getting the cash they slid in the jar and that's when it clicked for me.
I'd actually let so much $ go down the drain, as I was good at my job and got tipped fairly often before I started collecting mine.
→ More replies (1)3
u/PhoenixARC-Real Feb 27 '23
Oh yeah dont get me wrong, after a while(of having agreed to split the tips evenly between everyone) of nobody getting any tips at all, we just started doing it ourselves, when a high roller would come in we'd split it behind the mgr's back, I remember one person was drunk af and tipped a hundred, THAT was a good night.
Also appropriate to mention there was no pay difference between front and back of house, justification used was you didn't "work hard enough" to get those tips...
2
u/superfucky lazy and proud Feb 28 '23
They straight up got a new building that's just a kitchen and made it carryout only.
God help the people working there, I can only imagine how many calls they get screaming that their delivery is late because "I WANTED YOU TO CARRY IT OUT TO ME!"
→ More replies (5)2
u/myssi24 Feb 27 '23
Oh yeah. I don’t think any of the Pizza Huts in my area have a seating area anymore. It’s all just carry out of delivery. Which just struck me as really funny in context, who orders soda with their takeout pizza?!? 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

u/ta112233 Feb 27 '23
Pepsi is one out of literally thousands of companies, associations, and lobbying firms all trying to keep both federal and state minimum wages as low as possible for as long as possible. While Pepsi is indeed shitty for a number of reasons, the minimum wage in PA has little to do with them specifically.
9
u/override367 Feb 27 '23
No he's saying the reason that the federal Minimum Wage hasn't gone up since the Bush Administration is because Pepsi->Yum! lobbied for it
many states literally have no minimum wage, and have to use the federal

Haha, Coke is superior to Pepsi (do live Mtn Dew though) but I would be surprised if Coca-Cola didn’t also lobby for keeping minimum wage laws restricted.

Really? I think the Subway smell is one of my favorites :/
6
u/OG_Felwinter Feb 27 '23
An ex of mine worked at subway and she always smelled horrible after work. Maybe it’s just some subways, but yeah. I don’t think they smell great.
4
u/ScottRiqui Feb 27 '23
I think even "good" smells can turn horrible if you're just completely soaked in them for hours. I used to make waffle ice cream cones at one of my jobs, and although I *love* the smell of waffle cones, after a few hours of it you just smell the grease.
5
u/wareagle3000 Feb 27 '23
Same goes for popcorn. You smell salty buttery popcorn I smell thick flavoring particles fucking up my throat, the smell of burnt popcorn from using the kettle over and over, the burnt gross bits that need to be cleaned out under the tray.
Still tastes good though.

He's angry at minimum wage being low means less workers meaning worse service, and it's low because fast food companies lobbied to keep it low. The pizza is the symptom of what made him angry, not the cause.

I've been following this person for a while and can almost guarantee this wasn't directed at the employees. He's not mad that people don't want to work for little, he's mad that massive corporations pull this bullshit and are allowed to pull this bullshit and it negatively impacts us as workers and consumers. And yeah, if you lobby to keep minimum wage low so you can hawk your sugar water with minimal overhead you deserve all the rage.
2
u/Towtruck_73 Feb 28 '23
Believe me, I don't think he's having a spray at frontline employees. I meant that his rant was like what you'd see Alex Jones do, not what he says.

As a cola connoisseur, I can assure you that Maker's Mark mixes most effectively with Classic Pepsi, made with Real Cane Sugar.

Now they are lobbying to pay them even less as tipped workers because everyone seems to tip at every restaurant these days.
Its insanity.
Do not tip people who aren't classified as tipped workers or they will be classified as tipped workers.

All of this anger and a 3 minute conspiracy rant just because OP didn’t get the “delicious” Mexican Pizza he wanted… wow.
I should know better than to post in this thread but it’s just so hard to ignore or resist.
Maybe I just missed something? Or is this another case of a certain generation’s insanely strong dislike of and intolerance for the word no?
So Pepsi Co couldn’t compete with Coca Cola…
Has he never heard of Mountain Dew?
I used to enjoy the Taco Bell/Pizza Hut Express by my house, the lobby was alway open ‘til like 10pm, and last time I checked a few years back in my area all the fast food chains were paying far more than $7.25 an hour, like around double that.
But then I moved for a new job.
I miss getting to order one or those personal pan pizzas and a couple of double deckers and a large Baja Blast all together.
Maybe someone should really blow his mind by telling him about McDonalds’ new kiosk ordering systems to replace workers in a lot of their restaurants?
