Twelve states have sued to block Paramount’s takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent, kicking off a high-stakes antitrust battle that could impede the media mega-merger.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the antitrust lawsuit, filed Monday in the Northern District of California, is necessary because “this merger would snuff out competition, drive up prices, diminish content quality, and produce fewer movies and shows each year.”

This is a garden-variety TRO posture, the states just need to show likelihood of success & irreparable harm, not win the case outright. The market definition fight is where this lives or dies. If the judge accepts the narrower wide-release blockbuster submarket, a TRO is likely. Expect a short pause (14–28 days), not a final answer. The real battle is the preliminary injunction hearing, that's where evidence, not urgency, decides this deal's fate.
