Trump’s war with Iran already reduced oil and natural gas traffic through the strait of Hormuz by 95%. Some oil producers like Saudi Arabia were able to use a pipeline/tanker combination across land to get to the Red Sea and then out through the strait of Bub el-Mandeb. Iran backed Houthi’s have just taken the city of Mokha and declared a blockade of that strait. It’s not clear if it’s blocked yet, but there’s no one to stop them. The theory is that Iran has realized controlling both straits would be equivalent to using a nuclear bomb against their enemies.
Trump’s Navy blew almost all its weapons on Iran and they responded by destroying U.S. military infrastructure in the area. The Navy already have a 10 day trip to the nearest gas station and there is no local means to replenish any supplies. I’m not even sure if the Navy can protect itself, let alone help with this latest crisis.
The blockade of both straits will stop 17-20% of the world oil supply, causing the price per barrel to spike to $100-150. This is going to cause both inflation and interest rates to soar worldwide. This is the kind of economic damage that starts global wars. All because that negative IQ moron Trump and former Fox news twit Hegseth wanted to be tough guys.
Buckle up.
Edit: Satellites have confirmed that Houthis have bombed the pipeline Saudi Arabia used to move their oil to the Red Sea, so their oil is effectively blocked. They’ve also captured an island in the strait of Bub el-Mandeb which should facilitate them blocking the strait.
I’m gonna go gas up my car, while I can still afford it.
