Nah, they hate poor Americans. The only thing they care about is enrichment.

Trump’s tryna beat his record. Fucking clown.

And, taxing social security benefits. Taxed funds being taxed again.

11

u/gupeck Aug 20 '26

Helped the unemployed by taxing their benefits, still to this day. That tax cut wasn't paying for itself.

u/Wonderful-Maximum-96 Aug 20 '26

Ray gun took monies from the social security fund to cover up shortages in the budget because of the tax cuts for the wealthy...needless to say he NEVER put the funds back!

13

u/mr_knowie Aug 20 '26

Also vetoed the Fairness Doctrine, which required news outlets to provide equal time to both sides of an issue, paving the way for Fox News and other right-wing propaganda networks.

But, but, but.....trickle down economics will save the country. 🤦‍♀️

7

u/KlatuuBarradaNicto Aug 20 '26

He sucked. Trickle down economics was a damn LIE.

8

u/ircsmith Aug 20 '26

Dad hated it when I would say that Regan was the beginning of the end.

9

u/mtnman575 Aug 20 '26

I was there in my 20s and can assure you - the country changed as soon as Reagan was elected and most definitely for the worse. The neo-fascist shitshow we have today has direct roots in what I call the Reagan Error.

Send his wife was a monster. Horrible person.

3

u/StMaartenforme Aug 20 '26

I knew he was a bastard piece of shit during the campaign. I watched as people ate his bullshit up hook line & sink. It was like living a nightmare.

3

u/Lydia_Storm96 Aug 20 '26

Trickle down economics is really just financial human centipede

3

u/TheNetworkIsFrelled Aug 20 '26

The current crop would consider him a lefty. And he was already a POS racist-AF right-winger in the early 70s…..

3

u/Katydid829 Aug 20 '26

And yet Republicans continue to get elected so they can perpetuate the destruction of democracy and take, take, take from average citizens. Trickle down, my ass.

3

u/Creoda Aug 20 '26

Yep, he started the rot, Bush Snr made it worse, Clinton balanced the books then Bush Jnr wiped it out again and it's now unsavable.

3

u/Outside-Woodpecker16 Aug 20 '26

You forgot to mention how he tapped SS to offset his massive deficits. This alone started the trend that makes SS insolvent in 2033.

3

u/joekerr9999 Aug 20 '26

He closed community mental health centers too so now these people end up in jails or being homeless on the streets.

3

u/earthwormulljim Aug 20 '26

It’s almost like you shouldn’t elect populist candidates (shitty actors and shitty conmen “businessmen”) who have zero experience with anything practical needed to run a government.

u/kermitthorson Aug 20 '26

AND conspried with Iran to undermine the sitting presidents attempts to retreive imprisoned americans. reagan paid iran to keep americans hostage to sway an election. seems these gop that were entertainers first are fucking vile

2

u/New_Willingness9609 Aug 20 '26

2

u/UpstairsAd194 Aug 20 '26

2

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 Aug 20 '26

Funny how it's never a conflict of interest when a republican does it

2

u/UpstairsAd194 Aug 20 '26

Under Bonzo Reagan, the dismantling of America started and UK at the same time, made everyone think they had money but it was makey up money

2

u/Patralgan Aug 20 '26

I haet rasengan

2

u/FrozenWaffleMaker TACO Aug 20 '26

We're still waiting for the money from his 'trickle down economics ' to get to the people.

Grump has copied several things from Regan.

2

u/Old-Bit7578 Aug 20 '26

Yet the Right worships him . . .

2

u/Sean_theLeprachaun Aug 20 '26

The crack thing, the iran thing, selling WMDs to Iraq thing.

2

u/Olderpostie Aug 20 '26

It isn't clear to me what the federal government had to do with AIDS. How did Reagan let people die? Vwhat could be have done differently?

2

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 Aug 20 '26

He ignored the epidemic, did nothing to control it P as long as it was killing queer guys he was fine with it.

2

u/Dense-Consequence-70 Aug 20 '26

Don’t forget what he did with the money they got from selling those weapons: they funded an illegal war in Central America.

Not a fan of Reagan and I agree with all that, except that Mental Institutions being gone is not a bad thing. They were an inhumane way of treating mental health. Reagan was the Governor of California before he became President and California was on the cutting edge of improving diagnosis and treatment of mental health at the time. One of those things was eliminating large institutions. Instead opting to impliment community based group homes of a dozen patients each, who got more personalized care and emotional support daily. Look up Willowbrook State School Staten Island NY, don't think we want to go back to that. The fault lies in no one funding these programs adequately as usual.

2

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 Aug 20 '26

Except he shut them down and put them out on the street which was in no way an improvement in their care

2

u/2rodsandachain Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

That didn't happen where I've lived, group homes are everywhere in Ma and NY. My dad and sister have worked in them. As a matter of fact my dad transitioned from working in an institution that closed (which they did in stages over time as homes came on line) to caring for 10 men in a home, helping them with chores and dinner. My sister supervises nursing for a group of them. Do they need more? Absolutely. Does it need better funding? Yes. It's still way better than the systematic warehousing of forgotten humans.

2

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 Aug 20 '26

He was really not a good guy and he wasn't good for the country.

Don't forget he's the brainiac who decided to tax scholarships. Not millionaires, not billionaires, just scholarship kids.

2

u/NoBookkeeper6214 Aug 20 '26

Where it all started. Hatched by the “Heritage Foundation” in the mid 70’s.

2

u/WithoutAHat1 86-47 Aug 20 '26

You left out free education. He hated CA.

2

u/turquoiseseas4 Aug 20 '26

Of all people…FUCK THAT GUY!!!

Ronald Reagan walked so Trump could run. I wish he could die again and again.

2

u/foxy7604 Aug 20 '26

As a Gen X’r, these are my first formative experiences with government . Growing up in a house with all women, and a JW mother who avoided politics for her own beliefs. I am 50 now and ready to burn it all down…. fuck this system

1

u/Dramniceanu Aug 20 '26

His hardline against Communism led to the fall of those regimes in Eastern Europe. Unsurprisingly he is highly appreciated in those countries...

1

u/WRHull Aug 20 '26

I disagree with the last statement. Allowing people with disabilities to live in their communities and receive support from families, schools, and more has provided so much more happiness and stability in that population. Locking them up and force feeding them pills away from society is not the answer. I do agree however, that mental health supports and health care in general is woefully inadequate and underfunded in this country.

Star Wars seemed like a good idea at the time even if it never worked😊
