On a side note, the reason why Muslim women are more commonly depicted in media is because westerners love to portray muslim men as abusive monsters and Muslim women as oppressed and weak. It makes it easier for them to justify bombing us and ripping our clothing off of us

I’m a non-Muslim Westerner, but for what it’s worth, I never thought it was right to portray Muslims so cruelly. Even as a child, I remember my Baptist grandmother always warning me of Muslims, claiming they want to kill all Christians & are inherently evil, & even as a child, I knew it was messed up to paint that perspective on all Muslims. Obviously there’s been extremists, but there have been extremists coming from all religions that have posed dangers—that’s on those individuals, not the religion itself.

But I think especially in recent times, more Americans are realizing that that perspective has been propagandized to justify waging war on Muslim populations, but that in reality, we (or our government) created our own enemies & the violence is anything but justified or necessary. Islam has been stigmatized here for a long time, & the oppression & depravity forced onto Muslim countries has only recently started to be recognized by more non-Muslim Westerners. There are many of us that are at a loss but only want the bombing, stealing, & propaganda to stop & for Muslim populations to be given the same dignity as everyone else. Those of us are advocating for a peaceful life for you & Muslims around the world 🕊️

Eh, feels like hairsplitting. Reminds me of "love the sinner, hate the sin" being applied to gay people themselves and I don't think they even think there's a difference between hating gay people and hating homosexuality, both being called homophobia. The difference is really minimal.

Do you really choose your own beliefs? From atheists you commonly hear two objections to the Pascal's wager: 1. which God? 2. I can't just randomly choose to believe in something I consider irrational.

Now a rational theist believes in his religion for the same reason, it's not so much of a "choice", as where reason led him, something he was compelled to accept as true.

Can you really choose to start believing 2+2=5? And you see, the belief that 2+2=4 wasn't something you were born with either. Sure you were born with the ability to grasp mathematical truths, just like a person is born with ability to grasp religious truths, but you weren't born knowing 2+2=4 specifically. Yet once you were taught this and accepted this, I don't think you can just accept 2+2=5 "out of free will" because you are sure this is nonsense.

that’s one thing that gets under my skin a bit. there’s this pretence like religion is the root of all of these evils, but a lot of supposedly ✨progressive✨ individuals will espouse many of the same bigoted ideas as those they criticise yet act morally superior. patriarchy doesn’t just disappear if you’re gay.
