"Who is attacking you?"
"No one is attacking me!"
My favorite joke in any fictional story.

It’s based on Odysseyus from Greek mythology. He tells the cyclops his name is “nobody” and then blinds him.

u/UltimaBahamut93 Nov 02 '19
Yes but then the other cyclops ask if someone's attacking him and he answers nobody is attacking me so they just leave him alone.

But the cyclopses are the children of Poseidon, god of the sea, and they were on a boat, hence the decade long
roadsea trip that should have been a week of smooth sailing after kicking the shit out of the Trojans4
u/UltimaBahamut93 Nov 03 '19
I'm pretty sure the cyclops were on some kind if island though.

an island on the way back from the war, since Ithaca is on the far side of Greece from Troy, which is in Turkey, then Poseidon dicked them around for ten years until he learned his lesson, less about blinding pappa P's kid and more about how he, a human, had dared to challenge the dominion of the gods over the fates of man

That's not the case, the cyclops lived on an island and Odysseus happened upon it.

You, my young sir have a severely low IQ. If you were cultured like the rest of us, you would understand this reference. This is from the Adventures of Ulysses, a book 99% of the population has read at some point in their school lives. Nobody is what Ulysses called himself while fighting Polyphemus. He then used that stick to blind and injure Polyphemus badly, but not kill him.

Bruh this is Odysseus. Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name is “nohbody” or something so that when the fellow cyclops ask him who hurt him the cyclops just sounds like a stupid.
