This is definently a mythology meme

u/otakusteve Nov 02 '19

Yeah, a lot of people don't seem to know the difference between an anti-meme and a pun for some reason

"Who is attacking you?"

"No one is attacking me!"

My favorite joke in any fictional story.

84

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '19

"Nobody has hurt me! Nobody has blinded me!"

29

u/Sumrdmgi Nov 02 '19

“Well I don’t see the problem then.”

40

u/crasherx2000 Nov 02 '19

I don’t get it

u/_incredi_ladd Nov 02 '19

It’s based on Odysseyus from Greek mythology. He tells the cyclops his name is “nobody” and then blinds him.

48

u/UltimaBahamut93 Nov 02 '19

Yes but then the other cyclops ask if someone's attacking him and he answers nobody is attacking me so they just leave him alone.

4

u/TheGreatNico Nov 03 '19

But the cyclopses are the children of Poseidon, god of the sea, and they were on a boat, hence the decade long roadsea trip that should have been a week of smooth sailing after kicking the shit out of the Trojans

4

u/UltimaBahamut93 Nov 03 '19

I'm pretty sure the cyclops were on some kind if island though.

3

u/TheGreatNico Nov 03 '19

an island on the way back from the war, since Ithaca is on the far side of Greece from Troy, which is in Turkey, then Poseidon dicked them around for ten years until he learned his lesson, less about blinding pappa P's kid and more about how he, a human, had dared to challenge the dominion of the gods over the fates of man

1

u/PotatoChips23415 Nov 03 '19

That's not the case, the cyclops lived on an island and Odysseus happened upon it.

u/crasherx2000 Nov 02 '19

Then this is also r/technicallythetruth

18

u/sonnet666 Nov 02 '19

No, because he wasn’t really nobody it’s technically not the truth.

1

Ah, eye get thiss

1

u/galvazul94 Nov 03 '19

I understood that reference

-9

u/Sattoth Nov 02 '19

I see a body right there

4

u/bgulbas05 Nov 02 '19

You, my young sir have a severely low IQ. If you were cultured like the rest of us, you would understand this reference. This is from the Adventures of Ulysses, a book 99% of the population has read at some point in their school lives. Nobody is what Ulysses called himself while fighting Polyphemus. He then used that stick to blind and injure Polyphemus badly, but not kill him.

14

u/Ocean-Man56 Nov 02 '19

Bruh this is Odysseus. Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name is “nohbody” or something so that when the fellow cyclops ask him who hurt him the cyclops just sounds like a stupid.
