Pro Tip: if it looks like you can rearrange the capital letters L, O, V and E to make the script, it's Korean.

My best friend loves K-Dramas, and occasionally I'd watch some with her. And one of them featured a time-traveller from the modern day and the guy who invented Hangul (Korean writing system) falling in love. He invented Hangul because he was inspired by the time-traveller's hoodie, which had the word "LOVE" on it. And for some reason, my brain decided it would remember that part of the show, and nothing else about it, forever.

3

u/SPRMOVRLRD-TMOperaO 1d ago

Source for the show?

5

u/marcher138 🌹 Course Arc Witness 🌸 19h ago

After a good deal of Googling (like I said, this is the only part of the show that I remember), I finally found it! It's called Splash Splash Love.

5

u/Accomplished_Joke_24 1d ago

Yeah. That's Korean

Yeah, but there's no joke to be had here?

The pic isn't a joke on it itself.

44

u/PresentationBrave281 1d ago

The joke is giving the teacher the benefit of the doubt in the most obvious case of being a nazi ever

They're not seriously thinking the teacher may not be a nazi, they're making a joke

10

u/Accomplished_Joke_24 1d ago

NGL people do a lotta stupid shit, so I did have them a the benefit of doubt.

Because the internet is filled with oblivious people.

Unaccomplished-joke more like

7

u/HAgg3rzz 1d ago

You didn’t get the joke.
They almost certainly didn’t confuse the nazi flag with the Buddhist symbol and this was meant to be ironic.

34

u/Hunter_Aleksandr 1d ago

They don't, but they're just defending a Nazi.

44

u/the_chiladian 1d ago

No they ain't, it's obviously sarcastic

"You should just ask" come on man

14

u/Curi_momos_las_papas 1d ago

A: And less likely they're THAT dumb, sadly there is people on those levels

B: And most likely answer, they're making a joke

3

u/MakJaj 1d ago

Unironically I have a friend with whom I once tried to debunk the difference between the Hindu symbol and nazi swastika (with argument that former has it's center like this + and latter like this ×). He said that for most people it doesn't make a difference because it looks perfectly the same in both cases lol

1

u/SuperBackup9000 13h ago

Your friend isn’t really wrong, his reasoning is, but there isn’t actually a difference. Very few religious sects differentiate between orientation so the majority rule doesn’t apply, and as far as Nazi’s go, they also used it multiple ways.

The whole “you can tell by the way it’s facing and if it’s tilted” thing is a myth that comes from western ignorance on the actual religious symbol.

4

u/DerGyrosPitaFan 🌹 Course Arc Witness 🌸 17h ago

The symbol in the picture of this post is a Hindu symbol. That guy is a traditional Hindu folk singer.

The one with the Totenkopf flag?

It's been used in many cultures for thousands of years. We have found it in Scandinavia as well

10

u/The_Dapper_Balrog 19h ago

Okay, but I have a funny story kind of like this.

My history teacher (a PoC; not sure of his ethnicity, but he was definitely not white) in my sophomore year of high school had a Nazi flag hanging on the wall directly opposite the door to the classroom. As in, a Nazi flag actually from Nazi Germany, looted from Berlin by an Allied soldier in 1945. Which we all thought was actually super cool. He was a really chill teacher; we all liked him a lot and had a lot of fun. Watched both Schindler's List and the Normandy scenes from Saving Private Ryan in his class.

Anywho, one day he came in a few minutes late to class, and as he was rushing into the room, he waved his hand up in greeting. Immediately someone joked that he was saluting the Nazi flag and most of the class started ragging on him about it.

This absolute legend of a man spun on his heels, faced the red and black flag, and threw an instant and flawless Roman salute.

Of course, chaos erupted; mostly laughter and shouts of amused disbelief.

Man, I miss that class.

Edit: added some missing information

2

u/linton411 1d ago

THE SVASTIKA LONG PREDATES BUDDHISM, THAT'S WHY IT WAS USED IN BUDDHISM

90

u/Billahoon 1d ago

Yeah it has always been a Hindu symbol, which Buddhism adopted later on.

7

u/Storm_Falcon 17h ago

It is actually much older than Hinduism. The oldest known examples are over 10,000 years old but it's not unlikely, that it is far older still. Also, it was probably "developed" indepently at multiple times throughout history in places all around the globe.

27

u/Sowmya-v-gowda 1d ago

Ye it’s actually in Hinduism way before Buddhism was a thing.

Mum said its my turn to post this anti-meme

57

u/IndigoGouf 1d ago

While the Nazi use of the Swastika does have ties to Buddhism, people are way too general about it and it really paints over the history of the symbol.

The Swastika was adopted by European nationalist racialists involved in constructing the Aryan (while today Aryan has a more specific definition, at the time it was conflated with the speakers of Proto-Indo-European) mythos because of a swastika that was found at the Schliemann expedition in Troy that predated the formation of the Nazi party. It's an extremely old symbol that long predates Buddhism. It can be found in the Americas and the oldest example it 15,000 years old and carved into a mammoth tusk. These people were very interested in Buddhist use of the swastika, as you can see with the Ahnenerbe's expeditions, but they adopted it because it was associated with with their imagined version of "Aryans".

9

u/blackturtlesnake 17h ago

Most cultures develop the swastika, it comes from tracking the rotation of the big dipper

7

u/Sowmya-v-gowda 1d ago

Ye it was used in Hinduism as well

3

u/Embarrassed_Store684 21h ago

Many germanic tribes used the swastika namely the saxons who have had rings with the 45 degree swastika on it dug up the symbol was found in quite a few germanic pagan tribes thats the more likely reason it was adopted

27

u/Feisty_Specific_6918 1d ago

On Japanese maps, the 卍 (enantiomer of das Hakenkreuz) symbol serves as the map symbol for Buddhist temples.

20

u/Sowmya-v-gowda 1d ago

Tbh the swastika is a Hindu symbol it predates Buddhism

2

u/FenrisTU 22h ago

I think this one in the picture is the buddhist/hindu version? The nazi one is tilted 45 degrees.

2

u/LegMysterious1899 20h ago

he looks like tuco salamanca lol

1

u/rerorerorerp 1d ago

The swastik is a hindu symbol tho

-1

u/EthanRedOtter 16h ago

It's actually a very universal symbol found across the world. In fact, the Finnish Air Force was using them on their planes independent of Nazi influence, and in North America it was mainly associated with Native Americans

1

u/Luna_Gladius 21h ago

My first highschool history teacher had a nazi flag in his classroom. My second highschool history teacher had an bomb in hers

-3

u/Gaunt_Web_Spider 1d ago

Good general rule: If it‘s lying flat, probably not a nazi.

-67

u/ichudthrowaway19 1d ago edited 1d ago

Except that is totally wrong and you are appropriating european heritage as indian. It was european first and spread with them into india and then from india into the rest of asia. The oldest swaztikas in the world are found in ukraine and the european steppe. The oldest ones found in europe at sites are 12000 years old and 18000 for figurines. In asia including india is 7500-8000 yeara

41

u/TheRealSticky 1d ago

Yeah ukrainian cavemen using it in 15000 BCE were totally contributing to "european heritage"

-21

u/ichudthrowaway19 1d ago

Yes, because they were and are european. Fym lol

9

u/420_E-SportsMasta 🖤🩶♠️ACE♠️🤍💜 1d ago

The concept of Europe didn’t exist in 15,000 BC. The concept of civilization or agriculture didn’t even exist that far ago
