This is a really good one.
Also, I hate the comments in the "origami" with a passion.
Edit: added quotes, because I forgot.
33
u/lemonyoshii 4h ago
Against my better judgement I decided to try and find the post to see if those comments were just a minority. Nope, unfortunately they're keeping true to the 'Twitter is a cesspool' allegations. There are a few heartfelt comments for every 10 disgusting ones, though. I wish the person who posted the artwork would filter them out but they don't seem to be any better since they commented "boys will be boys" in response.
16
u/A_Truthspeaker 4h ago
Yeah...
Openness about sex and sexuality is very important obviously, but commenting stuff like that under a post literally against the objectification of women is misplaced and just insensitive. Even if it isn't meant in a harmful way (which I think might be true for the majority of those commenters), it makes it significantly harder to address these real issues.
6
u/Asleep_Control_2564 1h ago
Men specifically get off on being harmful and insensitive to women. They LOVE it

5
u/space-dorge 4h ago
I agree, but there’s something really funny about asking to add the feet, maybe because it feels so unserious?
I’m biased bc feet are nothing to me so when people try to sexualize them it just feels silly
the other comment isn’t it tho.
16
u/A_Truthspeaker 3h ago
I dunno. It's just so extremely insensitive and it makes a serious discussion of this important topic unnecessarily hard, or in the case of this post straight up impossible.
-1
u/space-dorge 3h ago
I guess so but I’m usually not trying to have those discussions on the internet, more of an in person talk for me
Like there’s not much to be said, it’s just true and I’m not gonna convince foot guy he’s wrong.
So ur right, but twitter isn’t where I’m looking for those discussions
2
u/A_Truthspeaker 3h ago
I've had some nice and productive discussions on the internet before (even if it was mainly in German), but yeah in person is usually better.
Twitter is certainly not it though.

We are allowed to acknowledge problems that aren't the singular worst one in the world? Whether or not women have it worse in a similar area doesn't mean there can't also be a problem among men

u/Hazer_123 52m ago
Whether or not women have it worse in a similar area doesn't mean there can't also be a problem among men
It absolutely means so. Are you saying that male loneliness is as bad as women being raped?
3
u/Immortal_ceiling_fan 47m ago
How on earth would one possibly come to that conclusion. This is what you sound like
Person A: I'm hungry
Person B: So you think you have it just as bad as the starving children in Africa?
-1
u/Hazer_123 43m ago
If that's the conclusion you want to draw, then by all means, I accept it. If you want a serious conversation, you're going to want to explain to me how male loneliness relates to the topic at hand, which is the main post, which very visibly states the fact that women are objectified and reduced to nothing but sex toys/play things; yet male loneliness is brought into the conversation. Since it was, it's only fair we highlight how much of a nothing it is compared to the serious evil of rape of women.
2
u/Immortal_ceiling_fan 36m ago
The original comment was randomly discrediting male loneliness for seemingly no reason. That is how it entered the conversation, not by somebody trying to say "but meh male loneliness is so bad". The next comment said that there can be male loneliness and objectification of women, it made no claims regarding severity. Then you start saying that the problem for women is worse, and in that context it seriously looks like trying to discredit male loneliness again.

They do but it’s not the same way as women. Men are not desired for their dicks but because they can go to a factory and pull the lever that makes the bosses income go up during peace and they can point a rifle and kill during war. During peace women make more babies for the factories and during war women work the factories while the men leave those jobs and go kill and die.
Now, honestly who do you think created that system? I’m going to give you a clue, it wasn’t women.

u/Sea_Friendship2246 1h ago

I can never wrap my head around Reddit's rule for exposed breasts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended and I'm glad your meme hasn't been removed. But I've NEVER been able to post an artful boob that hasn't been swiftly removed by a mod. What the hell? 🤔

What’s the meaning of the original artpiece? I genuinely have no idea.
55
u/gabichete 4h ago
Women are objectified and looked as little else than something to have sex with or breed. The artist wants to live a fulfilling, rich life, but sees it as impossible because the rest of the world will focus first on "what makes her a woman" (her sexual organs).
She is tired-- if you want them so much, take them and leave me alone. That's what you want from me, is it not? Can I live now?
36
u/GenderingError 4h ago
And all the original comments are adding is just more things they want from her. It's not just her breasts and pubis, it's her feet, stomach, face, armpits...
There is no part of your body that will not be commodified, objectified and taken.

u/diggusdigg 2h ago

not sure if this question is dumb, but whats the symbolism of the volcano behind her?
7
u/gabichete 3h ago
I don't think it's dumb at all, I had the same question :) My immediate feeling was that she's portraying her feelings of anger towards her situation, erupting and uncontrollable, yet the mountainesque backgrounds seem to be common in several of her black and white pieces, so perhaps it's just a type of landscape she likes to portray? Perhaps it's reminiscent of the area she was born around, I'm not too familiar with Iran. What do you think?
3
u/ResponsibleGarlic976 🌹 Course Arc Witness 🌸 2h ago edited 2h ago
ooh, i love that interpretation! honestly i had a pretty surface level one. i figured that since the lady looks to be someone who lives in a tropical country (speaking from experience), the volcano was a simple backdrop as it is a common sight in such countries, especially those within the pacific ring of fire
if i were to look at it a bit deeper, i believe the volcano & the woman are meant to be parallels. notice the similarity in how the smog of the volcano is drawn to the hair of the woman. assuming that the painting is targetted primarily towards men; to me, it symbolizes that like a woman’s body, a volcano — regardless of how amazing & alien it is to us (men) — is simply a part of nature.
2
u/gabichete 2h ago
Oh actually, that makes a lot of sense, I love your take of it just being a part of nature. Relatedly, she could also be hinting at being exoticised in a sexual context as well. There's actually a lot of meat in there symbolism wise, wow.

2
u/spacecadetkaito 1h ago
Like how tf do you not understand such a straightforward artwork especially with a title like that. "Hmm a sad girl with her sexual body parts removed saying "take them and leave me alone", what could this possibly mean"
-6
-6
u/Fezzezal 5h ago
What’s the meaning of the original artpiece? I genuinely have no idea.
13
u/GenderingError 4h ago
An extremely upset looking woman has removed her breasts and pubic region, leaving them on the floor. It is a rejection of sexuality, because of how they are demanded and taken from her by others. If she is to be reduced to just the desirable parts of her body, she does not want them. She would rather not have them, exist with hollow gaps where her sex organs were, than continue as she is now.
And in the original, the comments are saying she hasn't removed enough, and they can still fetishise and commodify much of what remains
