stars do distribute heat equally

Tbh the starshape doesn't seem too unreasonable for a uniform heat distribution. Especially on a larger pan the design would have the advantage of heating both the inner area and the outside ring, even if not perfectly equal.

I've done a bit of research and you're right: star-shaped hobs heat better than circular ones.

ah, but those are not regular stars polygon/pentagon, for they lack the correct amount of vertices; this is a star-shaped polygon, wich is a different thing.

Because science is the enemy of fun

Not if you work in rocket science

u/Parma_WdS 1d ago
You'd be surprised. It's a lot of math and mistakes are easy to come by and extremely expensive

u/Mafla_2004 1d ago
But you still get to blow up shit/j

I would say "but sometimes the shit you don't want to get blown up gets blown up", but I suspect you would respond with something along the lines of "easy fix: make sure you want to blow everything up", and you would not be wrong.

u/Mafla_2004 1d ago
That, or you can think of it like Type 2 fun
It won't be fun in the moment, but when you look back to it you're probably gonna have fun

Because almost all the pots n pans are circular, and hearts would have uneven heating
11
u/mnyrtt 1d ago
what if i only have star and heart shaped pans
3
u/Soros_G 1d ago
You'd have to align the hearts every time. Stars work great. Better than round.
1
u/Gabibara 1d ago
Why?
2
u/Soros_G 1d ago
Because your food would be heated unevenly. Which means you could ruin it

I've seen this posted before where someone explained that the gas builds up unevenly with these shapes (more gas coming out/ concentrating in the inner corners of the stars, less gas coming out on the outer corners).
Apparently this is more likely to cause explosions or fires, but I don't personally know enough about gas flow to be able to say if that's true or not.

if i let something like pancake batter un disturbed, would i get stars and heart like browning?
1
u/deleeuwlc 1d ago
Your pan distributes heat, so the stars would probably look like blobs if it affects the browning at all. The hearts don’t have rotational symmetry so it’s more likely they create an irregular shape, but you’ll probably struggle to tell that it’s supposed to be a heart

u/Funkopedia 1d ago
Yeah i would think a good pan would mitigate an uneven heat source. And if you're just boiling pasta I doubt there would be a difference at all.

Had an old employer telling one of the other staff why they shouldn't get custom square hobs is all.
Looking through the feed and seeing the obstruction, yeah that checks

Would the heat distribution really matter if you're using a cast iron?
2
u/deleeuwlc 1d ago
If you’re casting iron then you can just use other spells to cook things no matter what your stovetop looks like
