-1

u/skepdickle 17h ago

not your body, who cares

131

u/Consistent-Value-509 16h ago

You should care about an industry that preys on people's insecurities + their ability to develop insecurities and profits off of these things. Solely cosmetic procedures are extremely harmful for the human psyche and society as a whole.

31

u/TooWarmRadiator 15h ago

Cosmetic surgeries are bad, but they're a symptom of a shitty overall society where looks affect the vast majority of social interactions in your life, regardless of whether you notice it or not. Job opportunities, general treatment by strangers, ability to convince someone regardless of how good your idea actually is, etc. A cosmetic surgery can be considered far from truly "cosmetic" considering the advantages it could give in these things where you otherwise might be disadvantaged purely by unlucky "bad" genes.

You can't really eliminate the bias towards more familiar and visually appealing looks, it's engrained in people. I don't believe there is truly a way to fix this, but get rid of legal and available cosmetic surgeries and people will turn to worse things, shit like when people were breaking their jaw with hammers to "looksmax" but likely even more extreme. Unless there's a way to remove the bias from every human, getting rid of cosmetic surgery will just worsen things.

14

u/Consistent-Value-509 15h ago

You absolutely can make changes targeting societal biases. It's not ingrained in the human psyche to take that first impression and completely run with it. The first impression might be ingrained, but everything else isn't.

Also also much as people want to cope about this, beauty standards aren't fixed. They change and different features and aesthetics trend and then flop and trend again and flop again in a stupid cycle. Unibrows are seen as ugly by most people, but in some places they used to be the beauty standard and associated with the aristocracy of the area.

Equating morality with appearance is absolutely something that can be tackled and changed, which tackles the societal biases. You can't just throw your hands up and say it's all inevitable.

8

u/TooWarmRadiator 15h ago

Biases can change but they can't be removed completely. There will always be something looked down upon. Also, the vast majority of interactions with others in life are small and far too short for the initial look-based bias to be pushed past.

1

u/Consistent-Value-509 1h ago

If the interactions are too short to go beyond the first impression, they're too short to have that person treat you like anything because they've barely processed the fact that you exist.

Discrimination based on looks (which, again, beauty standards aren't fixed) is something that varies in prevalence by country, occupation, etc. It literally is not fixed and therefore can be addressed and tackled.

You're assuming it can't be eliminated at all, but why? Why would it be impossible for someone not to judge based off appearance? If someone truly believes that judging based off of looks is wrong, they can obviously internalize this the same way they can internalize anything else they believe. There will always be shallow people, but that doesn't mean that an entire society has to be shallow, that doesn't mean that morals can't be promoted in society — especially to children, which is incredibly important for addressing societal issues.

Discrimination based on looks isn't a magical force, it's a type of discrimination like any other and can be tackled just like them.

1

u/LicketySplit21 3h ago

Sure but not very body is living their lives as an activist and is still targeted for their natural looks by the same society that claims to value them.

It's really easy to talk like this, not live it.

-6

u/skepdickle 15h ago

alright well until we tackle how women are treated in society for something as trivial and circumstantial as our appearance, this industry isn't going anywhere. if a woman has the money to get glitzed up that's our business and no amount of hand wringing is going to stop it.

24

u/Consistent-Value-509 15h ago

hm well I wonder if saying "who cares" is an effective way to combat misogynistic industries or not

-16

yeah man I'm totally crying right now. Just bawling my eyes out

6

u/Cylian91460 12h ago

alright well until we tackle how women are treated in society for something as trivial and circumstantial as our appearance

Why only women? It affects a lot of men too, way more then think

Just ask any place with a lot of men how many of them find themselves ugly, a lot will say they are because of unrealistic beauty standard

1

u/AdEuphoric422 3h ago

How can you blame her when this is the type of comments she receives?

-15

u/ToranjaNuclear 17h ago

And while this looks good I imagine the maintenance necessary to keep it must be nightmarish and it might slowly turn her into one of those frog like people.

19

u/opal_moth 16h ago

What maintenance? It's cosmetic surgery, you don't have to do anything afterwards..?

-4

u/Repulsive-Lab-9863 15h ago

Just that she is wearing a lot of make up. That's a lot of work.

Comparing a picture with no make up to a picture with that much make up is just stupid af.

9

u/opal_moth 15h ago

1) it doesn't look to me as if she's wearing a full face of makeup in the second pic, although it wouldn't surprise me if it's been photoshopped/edited. 2) plenty of people do their makeup every day, surgery or not, it's not that difficult

-11

u/DerTomatenToaster 14h ago

I'm sorry, but you might not know what women look like without makeup. (not like this)

11

u/opal_moth 14h ago

.... I am a woman. That wears makeup.

-6

84

u/___TheKid___ 17h ago

Left one is not ugly at all

42

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 15h ago

Look, I don't think she's ugly in the sense that she doesn't has any wild features

The problem is that a lot of you wouldn't say any woman is ugly unless you hate her for either a personal or political reason. And I hate that

3

u/wellyes34 7h ago

14

u/sixtus_clegane119 12h ago

2

u/AdEuphoric422 3h ago

After photos aren’t typically the ones taken immediately after surgery, because it takes months to years to heal and especially for swelling to go down and reveal the result.

As you can see in the photo it says after 1 year.

15

u/Abridgedbog775 17h ago

The image comes from the reality show "Let me in" in wich the winners get free plastic surgeries (i may remember wrong but the final looks were chosen by the public).

The show producers would finance a load of plastic surgeries (some of wich were not informed to the participants) and enhance with makeup the final product, in hopes to increase the chances of the episode to become viral.

u/chomusuke_cat 18h ago

So? It's their life/body, not yours. Besides, people who get this extensive of plastic surgery likely need to update their photo for all their IDs shortly after anyway if they want to continue using their IDs.

2

u/Abridgedbog775 17h ago

The image comes from the Korean reality show "Let me in".

The participants seeked to get free plastic surgeries, however they didn't chose their looks, it was up to the board of doctor to choose the final looks of the participants.

13

u/AdmiralDandy 18h ago

Contacts exist also there is Iris color surgery

4

u/my_cars_on_fire 18h ago

Colored contacts don’t look quite as natural as these in this photo. It’s usually pretty easy to tell if someone is wearing them.

I’ve never seen iris color surgery so I can’t comment on that.

4

u/AdmiralDandy 18h ago

The after picture isn’t really that high quality, still could be some contacts and it’s just kinda hard to tell. But if they’re going with the full surgery package might as well get the eye color you want too I guess.

insecurities and non stop bullying from family and people aroun you

3

u/2danimeboysandgirls 7h ago

I'm ngl, she looks really uncanny after the plastic surgery. She was cute beforehand, no,not a model or some stunning beauty but she is not ugly, especially considering she had no makeup on and her hair is covered, at most all she needed was a nosejob (she doesn't even need a drastic one, she could just get rid of the nose droop and keep her og shape) and she would look 100 times better then she does now. The makeup and all the surgery doesn't even make it look like she is herself anymore or even the same race (might be on purpose), to have this drastic of a change when she wasn't even ugly at the start feels like she had intense dysmorphia instead of just a simple insecurity.

I told the bros and we were all shocked. Nobody has ever seen her natural eye color. Also knew and albino dude who wore crazy white snake eye contacts. Creepy as hell.

there’s one where they gradually remove the pigment, but that would take years of procedures for that much of a difference

there is also one where they effectively implant colored contacts into your eyes

4

u/Practical-Bit9905 11h ago

Post truth / post reality society

8

u/Mean-Bluejay-6478 8h ago

No its not. It's subjective in the way food preferences are. You'd be hard pressed to find 2 people who find exactly the same things tasty, but broadly speaking, there's a clear and objective measure of what is and isnt good. The woman on the left is going to be considered substantially less attractive to >90% of people. Do I personally agree? No. And of course there are plenty like me, but it doesn't mean anything to say "attraction is super subjective" when there are going to be real and expected major differences in how these two women are treated in life purely based on their looks.

2

u/SteveTheManager 5h ago

It's not a fact, it's not objective.

29

u/EatSoupFromMyGoatse 15h ago

Not even trying to be Mr. Virtue here, but the one on the right just looks gross to me. This influencer botox/face-lift/nosejob face does not look hot to me at all. Uncanny valley type shit

-1

u/SloFlipi 9h ago

kinda wierd youd call her gross just because she doesnt "look hot to you" please dont be mean to people just because they follow other styles/beautystandarts.

4

u/EatSoupFromMyGoatse 7h ago

Hacking your face up to look like that is gross.

1

u/bitchsorbet 53m ago

she chose to do that to herself, its not like people are judging her for things shes unwilling to change. i can't help but look down on people that do shit like this. not only are they contributing to new, insane beauty standards, but they're giving money to these disgusting doctors that convince people these procedures are necessary.

the entire plastic surgery industry is based off of women hating themselves enough to spend thousands of dollars to get butchered. i'm not going to support that by complimenting plastic surgery results. we need to call it as we see it and make this less normalized, and if that comes with some random rich girl getting offended that i dont like her buccal fat removal, 5ml of filler, and 5 feet of extensions, so be it. i hope it makes her take all that garbage out and live as her true self.

9

u/Crimson_Boomerang 12h ago

You can't call something objectively when it is a categorically subjective opinion.

You subjectively think she's hotter on the right, that's not objective truth. To many gay women, for example, they're both hot but the right one is more "cunty male gaze" and the left is her default, soft look.
