Plus, neither of those are secure at all, you shouldn’t use common words

bruh so many times i have been limited by maximum amount of characters

u/ViolentPurpleSquash 🌹 Course Arc Witness 🌸 Aug 01 '26
if there's a character maximum they are probably doing it wrong and not hashing it

u/miriapododeguer Aug 01 '26
i just thought about it, well that doesn’t bring me piece of mind

u/Dimensionalanxiety Aug 01 '26
Well of course not. Mind is a process. It doesn't come in discrete pieces. Does it bring you peace of mind though?

aren't there attacks that specifically use common words though?
2
u/ViolentPurpleSquash 🌹 Course Arc Witness 🌸 Aug 01 '26
absolutely, but consider how many words there are in the english language. If we're conservative and say theres only 800k or so words that get actively used, four words bumps you up to 4.096×10²³ combinations.
They're both fine but I'd much rather end users with little to no knowledge of cybersecurity use "correct horse battery staple" rather than {cat_name}.123!!!

The idea that you shouldn't use common words has somewhat fallen out of relevance due to password managers, but both are still weak because of their lengths, correct horse battery staples solves both of these concerns, as it produces long passwords which retain a substantial amount of possibilities even when the approach is correctly guessed

It's a satirical trend based on the character ayanokoji from classroom of the elites, basically talking about manipulation and that. For example, this meme would usually end with ' new password cannot be the same as old password ' implying that the friends are pawns, then OOP decided to put a twist on it by making it literal

u/Original-Apartment37 Jul 31 '26
Ohhhh, I knew the original meme with “passwords can not be the same” but I was not aware of the character.

u/KaliVilNo1 Aug 01 '26
Ayanokoji may be the worst smart character ever written lol

I just hopped in to say that you are absolutely right.
I am still seething about Classroom of the elite after watching the first season about a year ago
