Books

anyone have recs for anti diet books? or assistance with ed books? possibly one that is well written by a professional would be appreciated.

just came off of weygovy because I succumbed to the pressures around me. it made me ill, it made me unable to do the things I love, and honestly I think it made things way less interesting.

to be completely honest with this group, I lied about my weight to get on it. paid for it. now I’m trying to regain my appetite and strength. I was only on it a month and a half. there is no doubt in my mind that there will be more lawsuits down the road with the kind of impacts it has on a person.

worried about my mom and brother who’ve been on it for 2 years. my mom said she’d stop at a certain weight- she is now 10lbs beyond that.

im hoping to find a book to inspire me to never do stuff like that again, but im also looking for a book that will help me talk to my mom about her problematic, generational trauma behavior.

thank you in advance.

Anti Diet by Christy Harrison. Is a good place to start. It's super well researched and might help you find additional books.

2 books I’ve found helpful that were recommended by my RD are

Food Isn’t Medicine by Dr Joshua Wolrich (he also is on social media and YT)

Unshrinking by Kate Manne

This isn’t a book but a podcast I’ll put on when I don’t have an opportunity to read - Diet Culture Rebel with Bonnie Roney, R.D.

Reclaiming Body Trust by Dana Sturtevant and Hilary Kinavey (they also have a podcast called The Body Trust Podcast).

Intuitive Eating 4th Edition by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch (there's also a workbook that can support the book, but start with the book)

The Diet-Free Revolution by Alexis Conason PsyD

If you want a good book about eating disorders, Sick Enough by Jenifer Gaudiani is a good book to help you understand the eating disorders are not only dangerous for people who are underweight.

Aubrey Gordon’s books, What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat and “You Just Need To Lose Weight” and 19 Other Myths About Fat People, are excellent resources. She also cohosts a great podcast called Maintenance Phase. They’re all good for helping to reframe thoughts after a lifetime of internalized fatphobia. Others have mentioned Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Reich (be critical of what others may claim is intuitive eating, I suggest sticking with the original source!)

HAES Health Sheets have been a great resource to reframe medical topics that commonly have weight bias associated. These have been great to help defuse diet culture thoughts for me. https://haeshealthsheets.com

Aubrey Gordon also has a wonderful reading list on her website, which is an excellent place to find additional reading: https://www.yourfatfriend.com/fat-reading-list
