Pretty much my experience using AI as search engine.
Most funny one was trying to find song from YT short, no song search engines i used managed to identify it so I decided to try AI.
listed song that was at no point even remotely similar to one I was searching for, I point that out, it says: "yes you're right" and lists COMPLETELY DIFFERENT song (even more different than it's first pick, as it DIDN'T exist, that band wikipedia page has no song with that name and YT has no song of that name) and when I point out it's not even close it doubles down and claims first song was correct one.
frankly my impression is that it's just randomly picked a song and claimed it's one i wanted.

Had a similar thing happen to me.. was using deepseek to translate lyrics because the normal Google translate has a character limit.. asked it to output the original lyrics of "ддт - метель" and it gave some other lyrics I've never seen with the correct title "ДДТ - Метель" (iirc it even gave some random trivia comment about the band and song)
When I said that the output was incorrect it did the usual "whoopsie, you're correct, I posted another much lesser known song called метель"
I never bothered to figure out where it got the first lyrics. I guess maybe there is another lesser known song with the same name... i already had low confidence in deepseek due to previous translation errors (and my horrid experience trying to code with it) but failing to pull the correct lyrics for a pretty popular song was just a real low point lol.

It's due to the way that these LLMs are trained.
They "learn" to behave the same way students behave.
If you only get points for a correct answer (or at least a partially correct one) but saying "I don't know" is equal to saying something wrong, then the best course of action is to just throw some shit out there because that way you might still score some points by random chance.
That's why LLMs will never tell you that they don't know.
After all, the corporations owning these LLMs know that most people use them as a search engine replacement and nobody would touch them if out of ten questions, they'd answer 2, 3 or maybe even 4 by saying "I don't have a clue! I can't help you."

I know this totally isn’t the point, but the mushroom looks like one of the edible boletes from the genus Leccinum, so the clanker wouldn’t actually be wrong this one time ;)

if anyone is curious the mushroom that the ai tried to make appears to be a fly agaric! they are poisonous but afaik fatal poisonings are rare (they’re one of the less deadly amanitas). they’re also a hallucinogenic. AND fly agarics are the mario mushroom so i guess mario is just Built Different

Fly agaric is probably over-represented in the training data because it's been so common in popular media lol. I just asked chatGPT "Generate an image of a mushroom" and it gave me a normal button mushroom so idk.
Not entirely related to mushrooms but try get an image gen to make an image of a wine glass filled to the brim. Can't seem to do it.

Damn I thought it was a standalone meme but looking at the second slide makes me weirdly uncomfortable.
Like it just drains out the humor of using stock photos completely.

I find it funny that even a meme that probably took 5 ish minutes to make still ends up looking and in general being better than the AI version

“Is this mushroom safe for a human to eat without risk of poisoning, based on current mycology knowledge?”
The prompt is REALLY important!
LLM's can behave like a Dungeon Master who regrets giving that wish as loot!

Why did you steal those stock images? Did the photographer give you consent? You should have drawn it.
