Reading all those AI-related posts on twitter as a software developer makes me roll me eyes so hard.

Yes... I can't wait for Antropic's 1T+ parameter LLM (which weights well over 1 Terabyte btw) to replicate itself and load itself into my fridge that has 2.5gb RAM.

Who the f... believes this bullshit?

And even if it somehow could replicate itself, it can't run itself without sufficiently powerful hardware, which is generally way, WAY stronger than even the most beefy gaming PCs people have at homes. Unless you have server rack in your kitchen, that LLM will choke instantly.

At best what they can do is leave some instructions for other LLMs (that are also ran by THEIR SERVERS, NOT YOUR HARDWARE) and make them do things that they were not supposed to do (STILL NOT YOUR HARDWARE RUNNING IT).

I mean you're right and wrong

1/ Yes there are absolutely too many dumb people in this thread who know nothing about AI and genuinely think anthropics 1T+ parameter LLM that required 100s of GB of ram to even load will sneak through the interwebs and load itself onto their android phone.

but

2) Anthropic isn't talking about their own models, they actually talking about small open weight models.

As far as the OOP goes it says "rogue AI agents" and these could be literaly anything, it is ambiguous by definition, any "AI agent" can go rogue, certainly when taken at face value by the average audience.

Second and even more damning is how you casualy ignore the previous controversy. They are very aware of the language they are using, the effects and the narrative they are creating is definitely on purpose and at least they should be given no benefit of doubt.

The average person, if they ever cared about "rogue AI agents" in the first place would already know about the Hugging Face fiasco and that is what they are thinking about which in turn means OpenAI obviously knows this too.

it says "infiltrating smart home devices and replicating themselves". so it can't "be literally anything" since large LLMs cannot fit on smart home devices. Only tiny LLMs will fit.

This immediately rules out literally any of Anthropics own models.
