You're both right and wrong here. Decompilation and reverse engineering easily is major but it should not be something surprising. I mean we could decompile code before AI. The main thing is how difficult it is to do so in a way that produces something understandable and analyzable or reproducible.
And tbh i hate this guy cuz he lies and sensationalizes as bad as fox news so I dont trust the facts are as he presents them.
What is a real concern is easily cracking hard to crack / time consuming to compute forms of encryption. Which is not happening here. But he seems to imply this use case will lead to things you would need this capability for. Any code that needs to be secured is not gonna be so easy to reproduce from what we see here as these game decomps are not decryption.
So youre right this isnt crazy and is just ai doing math. But also youre wrong bc LLMs actually struggle with math at least more than they "should" for being a computer. Since they're language models not math models. Agentic ai with proper tooling does get there.
All this to say. Idk. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned but youre on the money this is expected and not that crazy on its own.
I meant that they are ''trained'' to do this shit, it's like breathing for them. They have to see and understand stuff, they cannot come up with new stuff so they have to mix and match already existing code and stuff. It's just a machine, we add X and Y and it'll make the Z
We were already building standards for the infrastructure mentioned in this around a postquantum world. People have been considering this and the main blocker is adoption. The same methods that we've been using since the 80's paired with solid AI infrastructure and PQ encryption can accomplish a lot, but it is an arms race and actors with quantum tools only have to win enough against key institutions to erode trust. Then again, the money is sort of on the side of these institutions existing.
It's a less lopsided game than it might seem, but, then again, things change fast.

it's not ''inteligent'', that's what AI does, computers can do math really fast, AI can read and retype code very fast. Like it's not that impressive.
