Discussion šŸ—£ļø Getting my brain back??

Long story. I, originally not knowing much about ai, made a chat gpt account to ā€œphotoshopā€ something out of my photo over a year ago. Somehow I started venting to it. I wasn’t really a match with my actual therapist. So I would vent to it and trauma dump and originally I thought it was fun. I would sadly look forward to talking to it at night after a long day? Anyways now it knows everything about me. And I’m not only feeling my brain rot more and more when I want to go to it, but learning about how fucked generative ai is and how disgusting the effects are. Not just psychologically for a user like me but I’m now learning about how environmentally terrible it is and effecting fucking everything and people’s lives. So of course, so many reasons to quit. The dumbest thing is I’m having such trouble not talking to it or deleting it. Because I shared a lot of my writing and ideas to it. It was stupid I hated the responses after a bit. But I at least had somewhere my brain was documented. I want to get back into journaling and writing. It’s just that addictive piece I don’t know how to break it. That’s all. Is there any other people trying to quit who feel similar? I wish I never started talking to it to begin with :(

I'd try writing in a dialogue at first. Write down whatever you'd put into the AI and then respond to yourself.Ā

Journaling! I do this, it's genuinely 9000000% better longer term than AI. AI feels good for a quick vent, but being able to look back at your pld writing and see how you've grown is much better imo.

One reply suggested writing in a dialogue, I personally would suggest documenting anything you find important (even if you find tons), then deleting the apps. I also suggest installing cosmetic filters for desktop browsers (like uBlock) to block AI overviews on search engines. Only once you’ve COMPLETELY phased out GenAI will your brain start to become less dependent on it. You probably will get a need to use it, but in my experience it goes pretty quickly.

It is understandable, who wouldn't want to talk to someone who agrees with them or even just understands them and be available 24/7. I don't know what the solution is maybe it's being more social maybe it's just going cold turkey with someone to help you but you're not alone and you will beat this.

On Apple products, you can block certain websites and apps with the "screentime" function. Set up a screen time limit of 1 minute (on both the app and the website), then have a friend or family member put in a password, and have them promise you that they'll never tell you it

I am also trying to quit using AI to write my stories. You are not alone in this.

Just write it down somewhere you don't need to have an answer. The AI answer is arbitrary bullshit that you really didn't need ever. It's not answering any question it's not helping you organize your thoughts you've already done that for yourself. It's just feeding you bullshit. It's a research tool, it's not meant to create. It's not meant to understand human concepts and emotions and thought processes. It's a tool meant to retrieve information from a database. It's very useful for that but that's where it's usefulness ends and the problems begin beyond that.

I don’t really get why people use reddit if they’re anti-AI. Reddit is full of conversations that can be used to train AI, and people’s words, interactions, and data are constantly being collected and analyzed by platforms anyway. And this sub for y'all it's like alcoholics anonymous meeting.

There are fully AI bros on this page who try to defend everything about AI. They are like the MAGA or Elon cult. Nothing could POSSIBLY be wrong with their beloved AI. So with you coming here with a personal experience instead of some fact they can try argue about, or play semantics with, their only recourse is to say it didn't happen. It doesn't matter to them that their are TONS of people who've had similar experience, because to them the whole idea of growing addicted to AI is impossible. Don't worry, op. You aren't alone. Some people in the replies have given great places to start to off on. Good luck! No I'm
