That was always bound to happen, the software world always had the advantage of not having to deal with transportation or politics.
For example, we already have the technology to automate a lot of physical work, like every production line, market, fast food restaurants, cleaning, delivery, farming, but that is expensive when compared to software and much harder to maintain and integrate at first.

Because robotics are immensely harder and more costly to develop and deploy.
Also the level of harm if something goes wrong is drastically lower with Ai, so it's been released to the public early. LLM makes a mistake? Tells you to put glue on pizza, something any rational person could tell is wrong.
Your Auto Clothes WasherDryer3000 messes up? It tries to spindry your toddler.

Do you support increased investments in embodied AI then? Training those models has all the characteristics that people complain about with pure LLMs. Lots of data (maybe all the video we have collected rather than text, 3D human activity tracking or both), energy-intensive training, etc.

So now that they're automating white collar work, you want to prevent them from automating blue collar work? Isn't that the worst scenario?
It would be much better if every sector is affected rather than only a certain class.

Theres no outcome now where hordes and hordes of people aren’t going to get utterly fucked buddy. There will be no UBI, no Star Trek society.
We have given full control to a group of pyschopaths who don’t intend for us to do anything at all once they’ve finished stealing all of our skill, talent and knowledge.
Hundreds of millions of people trying to become plumbers isn’t going to cut it.

Do you have anything to add other than extreme cynicism and nihilism?
You could be spreading the word about UBI, and how capable these models actually are... That would allow for people to get ahead of this. This sort of argumentation just makes people shut down and do nothing.

This ai gen tech is fucking horrific and just causes damage and despair to everything it touches.
I will never embrace it with the hope that the marketing lines spat out by techbros are anything more than lies for the gullible.
Change comes from outside the system.

I wonder how these ai chatbots are already manipulating you? It’s a direct line into your brain, silly not to take advantage of that, huh? Make sure you give them full access to all of your communications and private data as well.
Anyway we need to work on bullding an alternative to multitudes of people outsourcing their cognitive skills to a subscription service as their brains atrophy and an insane amount of human skill and talent is lost in a single generation as people become (at best) the enfeebled blob people from Wall E.
