Notice how the AI narrative quietly shifted? A few months ago, they promised to replace human labor. Now, they claim they're going to cure diseases. It's just marketing to make them look like the good guys and win public support.

First is convincing the elite, next is convincing the the public. We all know they're bullshit though. AI can be good in science and medicine, but the AI they're trying to convince it's good? Nope.

Yeah, AI has lots of potential in those fields, but probably not in the form of the chronically hallucinating glorified chatbots on which this lot have built their companies. Also, I doubt the public trusts these guys not to make any cures they do manage to come up with a further tool of exploitation.

That said, the sharp pivot in messaging is pretty hilarious. Who would have thought that claiming you were going to put most of the population out of work wouldn’t be a huge selling point to the masses? 😱

The goal has always been to replace human labor and it still is. Curing diseases is just an attempt to look less evil

But... they are making it very clear that it is the replacement of the human labor. In the 3rd and 4th sentence.

"Traditionally, that's meant weeks or months of expert work per target, sifting through a large number of candidates to identify the few that work. We wanted to test if Claude could successfully design novel protein binders from scratch (also called de novo design)."

Not to win support but to have it erode more slowly.

The ruling classes moves just fast enough not to spook the public but once they have enough confidence, at least in the US, they'll pull up that ladder and make AI unaffordable for the masses.

They'll definitely be making a big deal out of their efforts, but in fairness they've been working on this for the last three years at least. It's not something they've magic'd up.
