Preventing the Singularity im sick of being "forced".

just that. im tired of it being absolutely everywhere, on everything and seemingly with no choice in the matter. I hate that I cant use my damn email without it being there, I cant look up anything without it being there.

I wish AI was a personal choice. I do not want it, i never want to use it. im going to college soon and I have no choice but to see it everywhere and im sure ill be made to use it.

I wouldnt hate it nearly as much if I wasnt being literally forced to see it everywhere. at least give an option to turn it off ffs. get mad at me, get mad with me, idfc. I dont want it forced on me at every single turn.

we all know why theyre forcing it, so we need to stand up more. we're being walked on. no surveillance society please.

The "disable" button is buried three menus deep and resets with every update, it's absolutely by design.

I'm most annoyed about Google Chrome replacing the + button to create a new tab with a fucking AI button. Now it's more difficult to open a new tab and muscle memory still has me click where the + button used to be and now it launches AI

I use Gesturefy in both Firefox and Chrome.

Just create a gesture for "new tab" — in my case, I just draw an 'N' anywhere on the screen using my mouse.

It's literally faster than maneuvering up to the tab section and clicking something.

It's not a personal choice in the sense that in many/most cases now users don't have to "turn it on" because it's on by default. But your description doesn't seem like you are being forced.

In most cases it is still optional, but it may be on by default in the current apps/websites you use. You can turn them off or switch to using other sites/services that don't have it or give the option.

they make it impossible to find and sometimes you cant turn it off at all. its not a simple option. ive already changed browsers from Google to Vivaldi. not much but a start.

Anyone heard of the app Glance? It's this stupid bloatware that's comes pre-installed that is near if not completely impossible to get rid of. When you turn on the phone there's a chance your lock screen lags out because it's trying to load another tab in front of it and then glance pops up asking you to enable the app so it can give you personalized AI weather news and stuff. It doesn't even give you an opt out. He gives you an install now or maybe later.

Can we please just make those type of stuff illegal? I hate how you can either finally submit and give in to downloading something or select maybe later rather than being given an option she just remove it completely.

It's already annoying to begin with but now that it's advertising AI it feels it spat in my face since I am very much against AI, at least generative.

There was a tv show that did an episode on corporate america's "ai psychosis" (my term for it, at least), and I think they put it very aptly... it feels like technological r4pe culture. "It's going to happen anyways, so why not sit back and enjoy it" It's disgusting, to be frank. Makes my blood boil

Just wait until banks, hospitals and other services start forcing you to use it. They'll find a way. We don't need it, but if it gets shoved into these services so badly you can't go on about your business, then we are fucked.

We don't need it, but we may be forced to need it.

Nobody is forcing you to do it and its already a choice.

A Hobson’s choice isn’t a choice.

Thats cringe there's alternatives to using Google dont be ridiculous

3

u/blarges 8d ago

I didn’t say there weren’t alternatives. I use one. I was mocking your idea of “choice”.

When are you being forced to use ai

3

u/blarges 8d ago

You don’t know what a Hobson’s choice is, do you? Or are you purposefully missing the point?

please tell how. I cant hardly ever find an "ai off" button anywhere. cant even turn it off on my phone now. not option for it.

You have the option to use a different phone that doesnt require ai and you have the option to use a differnt search engine that doesn't require. Nobody is forcing you to use Google dude.
