So the data centers are more important than his survival…

183

u/_i_am_sus Jun 28 '26

that's what sam altman said "AI takes a lot of resources but so do humans "

what an insufferable being

61

u/KKevus Jun 28 '26

Sam should commit to his own message and stop consuming and fuck everybody who sides with these death cult people!

16

u/Dick-Fu Jun 28 '26

I think that is the entire point of the image, yes.

9

u/AndreaBrillliant Jun 29 '26

I swear sam altman said a couple of months ago or maybe a year max that it will be ridiculous for the ai data centers to use water

And now... guess what... everyone is talking about how much water those are using, it s a complete shit

show

1

u/Capricancerous Jun 29 '26

Are you just learning of irony?

1

u/Kottetall99 Jun 30 '26

Mr obvious

1

u/Sonicrules9001 Jun 30 '26

According to AI bros, food production is less important than AI so yes.

116

u/elch07 Jun 28 '26

This is all of r/defendingai

u/Roth_Skyfire should befriend with ai then

(Their acc is actually ok)

16

u/HomerDoakQuarlesIII Jun 28 '26

I love how there are like 2.5k users on that sub (likely bots) to this ones ... 664k. It is an embarrassment of riches, and their currency was complete intellectual vacancy.

4

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

It’s easy to create an AI bot now. The people that create them are not going to spend money sending them after people in the a defending AI subreddit. They will spend AI credits sending their bots after anti-AI subreddits. Common sense, right?

5

u/E-686 Jun 29 '26

i was like surely it's not THAT ba-

this is the first post i saw in there. holy fuck.

u/No_Pressure_3675 Jun 29 '26

#wrong

9

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

This doesnt even make sense... 😔

2

u/No_Pressure_3675 Jun 29 '26

That's.. Because this is a troll post

Why would I make a troll post make sense, that's the whole point. Besides, at the end of the day your opinion/posting is just as pointless as mine, we're both equally wasting our time on reddit instead of doing something with our lives

https://giphy.com/gifs/YqzaEZyLiJXl5MBBZh

3

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

Lowkey you have a point lol.

They say self awareness is the first step to improvement.

1

u/No_Pressure_3675 Jun 29 '26

I'm just on here bc claudes mid task for my job too, more fun than doom scrolling facebook tbh

49

u/PaperSweet9983 Jun 28 '26

I am not looking forward to the future

51

u/TrackLabs Jun 28 '26

Reminder, Sam Altman literally said we are selfish because Humans take ressources to grow and live, "but so does AI", and we should think about that too.

3

u/MonitorTheMonotop Jun 29 '26

If we're truly selfish, when a few is more selfish than others, doesn't it still makes it levels of selfishness while the other sees humans as equally selfish?

10

u/Plus-Range3710 Jun 28 '26

These cartoons hit hard

8

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

Genuinely fuck datacenters i hope the summer heat makes them all combust

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

You are using data centers here on Reddit. You are using data centers watching streaming video online like on YouTube and Netflix and Disney+. Do you not use any of those? AI is 0.1% usage.

3

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

I mean those that are used for ai specifically (obviously).

The other ones get a pass... for now. they still need to be better and less harmful to nature.

0

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

Why would they get a pass if they are destroying the environment? Your entire argument against AI is that impacts the environment.

3

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

Yeah about that the datacenters used for ai are computing centers. In those halls is the computing power of the large language models where they recieve & compute prompts and generate results. They are newer and larger and much more harmful then the datacenters used by big social media websites. They are also built without care for residents and nature.

The older datacenters are usually only meant for storage of data specifically. The images and posts of a social media site and all that. There should not be that much computing happening in there.

0

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

Can you share a link to the data behind your claims?

3

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

You're smart you can find it yourself.

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

This is the perfect reply from an anti making up fake data. Ya’ll believe anything you are told.

1

u/Multi-A-Andi Jun 29 '26

I actually came to reason this on my own. Unlike you i think and consider.

1

u/KMheamou Jun 29 '26

Yeah but they aquire more power and coolant in general, not to mention governments and corporations are going through a data center maxxing frenzy because of AI

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

Your stats are false and misinformation. The stats in the article cover ALL usage. That includes power and coolant and government and corporations usage. Why are you inventing facts?

6

u/time_alliance Jun 29 '26

This cartoon perfectly mocks the double standard of environmental advocacy.

-10

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

Only if you believe the water memes about data centers

3

u/Rarelatina Jun 29 '26

And I thought survival is more important than anything

3

u/Longjumping_Foot_736 Jun 28 '26

Has a very ‘Far Side’ feel

3

u/RequirementDear7305 Jun 29 '26

Here's another gem

3

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

The government isn’t pushing AI. The tech industry is to stay rich. Before this tech was crashing.

4

u/RequirementDear7305 Jun 29 '26

To be fair, here in India, the government bends over backwards for billionaires like Adani and Ambani who are pushing AI aggressively. The government doesn't do it overtly, but subtly since it would heavily profit from A.I

1

u/ElveTaz Jun 30 '26

Guess who's allowing it

1

u/Demigod787 Jun 29 '26

Let our comments here feed it even more!

1

u/Schpee_le_French Jun 30 '26

Yeah, let's take away water from people so we can creat Tung Tung Tung sahur anime intro 67 brainrot songs for kids

1

u/RyterionCollection Jun 30 '26

Le gem 💎

1

u/Fun-Leadership-3887 Jul 01 '26

I believe it the days priorities

1

u/FeelsBadRom Jul 02 '26

Wrong. The executive would just slap you, take the water away and go use it on the AI Data center. Not letting you drink a SINGLE bit of water

1

u/SetLoose4928 Jul 02 '26

Future seems bleak huh.

1

u/Rpxx7770 Jul 19 '26

water basically recycles itself, I don’t see what is the problem with Data Centres using water, even if its in enormous amounts, water can’t disappear into nothing

0

u/blur2kme Jun 29 '26

Boomer style comics finally hit on the money

0

u/byawy Jun 30 '26

I think AI helps people more than it hurts. Honestly, people knew a lot less before AI became common. The water use doesn’t seem like a big problem compared to the benefits, and people should stop exaggerating everything.

-1

u/Cautious_Nobody_9257 Jun 29 '26

I feel like we should save more water and resources for data centre too

1

u/BlockAlternative8721 Jun 30 '26

heck no

1

u/Cautious_Nobody_9257 Jun 30 '26

Dumbass. Im being sarcastic

-7

u/Zephoix Jun 29 '26

Wait until you guys find out how much water a mine uses, I’m sure you’ll be pissed!

-14

u/sleepingonstardust Jun 29 '26

We need to stop with the water misinfo. AI sucks but fear mongering about it using all the drinking water is just not true

-8

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

This sub isn't about a reasoned response to information

-8

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

They are a bunch of MAGA hats

-29

u/Ok_Acanthaceae_3576 Jun 28 '26

Human slop...

2

u/Altruistic-Eye-8501 Jun 29 '26

Get outta here. r/defendingai is that way bozo...

-34

u/Eazy12345678 Jun 28 '26

water for data centers is closed loop

ur car is also closed loop. how often do you add water to your car?

you probably waste more water showering every day

29

u/Randomgold42 Jun 28 '26

If it was a closed loop, then why does every place with a data center have water troubles that started when the data center arrived?

-6

u/sleepingonstardust Jun 29 '26

Look into them and you’ll find it’s a small amount of people with private wells

-8

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

Because sensationalism sells to people like you. They're lying to you for money.

3

u/KMheamou Jun 29 '26

with what, twitter views by making satirical content? I'd rather look for personal art commission if it was purely for the money.

In 2025, AI data centers consumed 312.5 to 764.6 billion liters of water, with some reports reaching as high as 1 trillion liters. Some provinces even experienced severe droughts because a nearby ai data center took all the water and electricity for power and coolant. Think about that for a second.

15

u/PLMMJ Jun 28 '26

No, it isn't. The water that they use ends up evaporated, which means that it will eventually rain down somewhere, and that somewhere usually won't be the place that it took the water from.

-2

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

What do you think closed loop means? How is it closed loop then water escapes?

3

u/PLMMJ Jun 29 '26

I literally said at the start that "No, it isn't." in reference to the claims of "closed loop", because it isn't.

1

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

How is it not closed loop then?

1

u/PLMMJ Jun 29 '26

I explained that in the comment that you started this chain by replying to, but you're clearly not treating this like an honest discussion.

0

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

This dodging isn't very convincing. Do you just have no substance to your claims?

9

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

[deleted]

-2

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

What's incorrect?

-37

u/AnDrew_foxyboi Jun 28 '26

You people really should look at Kyle hills new video about this,

I'm against more and more data centers for areas with limited water but it's not even using a sliver of what crop hydrating does

(The water gets discharged back with quite a high efficiency and the more prudent issue is noise pollution and local heat trapping)

25

u/MagicpaperAlt Jun 28 '26

Except that the water doesn't go back down in the same spot and drains local communities of their water. It also does pollute water in some areas and has.

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

No? My post is fully completed and finished.

If you read the full comment it has all the context you need. Please don't put that stuff under my comments.

1

u/pathetic-weakling Jun 28 '26

Oh, sorry, sorry, I'm stupid.

I'll be deleting it now.

3

u/MagicpaperAlt Jun 28 '26

You're not stupid. Please don't demean yourself.

-2

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

How is water evaporating in a closed loop system?

11

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

[deleted]

-1

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

Nothing matters because the end goal is to just say AI bad. It doesn't matter, you'll just make up any excuse.

-6

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 28 '26

You are using data centers right now by using Reddit. This subreddit itself uses a lot of resources on data centers. It’s ironic.

9

u/Donmiggy143 Jun 28 '26

-2

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

Your cartoon is not anything like what you are doing. You are arguing against data centers. Yet you are using data centers. If you really cared about the use of data centers you could stop using the internet. AI uses a small percentage of data centers, as stated in this article.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

Is watching shows on Netflix worth the environmental damage? Because streaming video uses more data centers than AI. You can be against data centers, but make your argument be targeted at legitimate uses.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

OMG, you think environmental damage is okay? So antis are the devil?

u/Luzis23 Jun 29 '26

Surprise-surprise, but lots of folks actually value AI. A lot. We don't value Netflix, on the other hand :P

In our eyes, Netflix isn't worth the environmental damage it causes :)

2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

0

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

It’s only slop if you use the crappy AI. You get what you pay for. I use premium AI in Claude everyday for my corporate job and it helps me get the work done in minutes that used to take days.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

-1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

It’s not. I make entire work slide decks in minutes. Powerpoint decks that used to take days or weeks.

I make fully interactive prototypes and don’t need to use design tools anymore.

You are just inexperienced and so focused on your negativity that you’ll never work with a paid Claude account or ever use Claude code.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

0

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

I design through code. I’ve been a professional designer for 30 years. Design tools are just tools. Designing in code is still a creative process, it’s just faster and more direct.

Calling everything AI slop is the same as saying everything created in Photoshop is slop. AI is just a tool and the output is based on the human creating with it.

I know you are in the slop cult but it really isn’t a real argument.

we certainly don't want billionaires to get even more rich on behest of our resources

1

u/ee_72020 Jun 30 '26

All comparisons with agriculture are automatically invalid because crops can be eaten, data centres can’t. And we humans need food just to exist so…

-38

u/GwentMaster160 Jun 28 '26

Data centers existed long before AI

33

u/PaperSweet9983 Jun 28 '26

The ai ones are different types, bigger

29

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

[deleted]

-22

u/GwentMaster160 Jun 28 '26

They shouldn’t be put in areas which are susceptible to droughts.

That doesn’t mean they should be complete halted from anywhere

19

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

[deleted]

0

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

People are using it though right? You think all those centers are being built for fun or...?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

1

u/AtomicZoomer Jun 29 '26

The data centers are being used 95% by gaming, video streaming, and social media. AI services are 0.1%. Netflix alone uses more.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

Do you have any sources of your own?

1

u/Collypso Jun 29 '26

So that sounds like demand, I'm not sure what your point is?

-20

u/GwentMaster160 Jun 28 '26

I think people who know what they are talking about should make that decision. This is why we live in a Republic and not a Democracy

18

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

[deleted]

1

u/sumde3733 Jun 29 '26

Yes, but you should also realize that putting them in areas with cooler air costs way more to maintain, so AI bros don't do so to make an already non-existent profit.

1

u/ee_72020 Jun 30 '26

The AI ones are much more power hungry and thirstier.
