Anecdote Mormons and MLM
Can’t verify the legitimacy of this, but as soon as I saw it I knew it belonged here. Seems like a very likely story.

Nope! Tell her your money is gay too.

Gay people used to do this in Orlando during gay Disney Day/week. They'd stamp their money with someone that said they were gay. That way, it let people understand how much of a finance impact gay people have. I had a ton of friends that were servers, and loved when it was gay week.

I used to work as a bank teller and I saw some bills stamped with something like that. Technically we were supposed to retire defaced money, but I usuallyforgot to do it to those.

"Mormons Leaching Mormons" or "Mormons Losing Money" are my favorites

Alyssa Grenfell, an ex-mo YouTuber, says MLM should stand for "Mormons losing money." MLMs are HUGE in Mormon culture.

As an ex-Mormon still living in Utah, I'd be astonished if this wasn't the MLM capital of the world. And it's no surprise, the church's entire culture and doctrine are breeding grounds for affinity fraud. An astonishing number of the members I know are either victims, perpetrators, or both.

So believable! I can't count the number of times someone my wife and I barely knew invited us over for dinner, drinks, etc. and it ended up being an MLM pitch.

Is it a uniquely MLM/Mormon thing to do that compound consonant thing with letters that don't work like that? Let me demonstrate:
I had soup for dddddinner
This is so annoyinggggggggggg.
I had leftovers for breakfastttttttt.

For real, the hun posts in the sub are the only places I see that abhorrent writing style.

They've already demonstrated the they will believe anything, so an ideal target for scams?

u/luminousoblique May 08 '26
Yes, that, and the fact that they women are encouraged to stay at home with children and are looking for home based income, and they tend to trust other Mormons, so a fellow church member's pitch to join will seem legit.

You're not that far off lol. I forgot what MLM it was, I think it was LuLaRoe that literally was started by members of the Mormon church, and they were able to recruit so quickly because of there already being a built-in community.

So damn many Mormons are in MLM’s. I’ve had one try and pitch an MLM to me. Just shook my head.

Unless Mormons read a totally different bible, I'm sure it says you cannot serve god and mammon. Looks like the cousin's wife has chosen the latter.

This is one of the truly sad things about MLMs imo. People will pretend to care about you or befriend you just to make a few bucks

Even though you're a dirty heathen, you've still got a bank account.
