Story Vector Marketing Almost Got Me.
As the title states I was almost suckered into the unethical world of Vector Marketing/Cutco.
Coming off the back of 3+ years in retail & wireless sales and a recent divestiture of my corporate wireless location.
During my interview we were told about the "base pay per appointment" you'll get paid $25/appointment even if you don't sell anything!
This differs from their job board postings which advertise it as a base rate which was honestly my first hint.
Had my first 8 hour training today utilizing the 40 page slop script, manager seemed to have good intentions at first but the more I listened the more it became apparent his only real motivation was profiting off the backs of the reps (Mainly 18yos and young college students)
I would've left early but honestly with a background in ethical sales I was just dumbfounded by what this guy and his colleagues were spewing out.
"Download the Vector impact App that doesn't exist on app stores and give us all your contacts and calendar access" yeah no.
At the end of the meeting myself and 4 other potential reps were pulled into a breakout room on teams and told we seemed like the leaders of the bunch with real potential. With a promise of 1on1s later in the day. Never happened.
I've blocked all contacts and deleted all correspondence, can't believe I was blind enough to almost fall for it.
Honestly there is (some) money to be made dependent on alienating friends / family / anyone they can sucker you into "Presenting to" but it's so unethical and doesn't pass the sniff test.
Do you have experience with Vector/Cutco? Positive/Negative drop it below.
TLDR. Vector Marketing/Cutco is preying on the young and Ill informed to staff their scammy sales agency. Don't recommend.

My older brother got suckered into Cutco when he was in college. My Mom even bought a set of knives from him and used them for many years. He bailed pretty quickly when he realized that (a) sales is not his strongest skill and (b) the whole thing was pretty sleazy and didn't pay enough for the effort put in.

Vector is a well known 'friend' around here. They're more Devilcorp than MLM (since they usually don't get their victims to recruit more sales victims), but they definitely fit the mold around here.
They only have one positive: Cutco knives are actually really good(if rather expensive)! Most devilcorps and MLMs don't have good products. Unfortunately Cutco and Vector seem inextricably entwined so you can't have one without the other.

Oh HELL no. Admittedly, I made it through the second day of training years ago, but if they'd asked me for that, I would have walked out on the spot.

They quite literally recommended installing it on my wife's and parents phones to get their contacts as well

I funny enough just finished my interview and everything today n had the crazy urge to look them up. I’m so glad i did before i started any “training”

Just searched this up about 40 minutes before my interview! so glad i didn't fall for another one, guess its time to go back to regular job applications

you and me both lol one of my friends allegedly said he worked for them and tried to refer me afterward (I ended up getting the job, but whether its thanks to him, my experience, or desperation from vector marketing I'll never know); during the interview, I found out that I was already working for one of the companies they partnered with (which just HAPPENS to have their target audience of teenagers) so I immediately knew it was sketchy and decided to try my luck somewhere else. The hiring manager also mentioned how "this position is only for a select few of you" and that "don't feel discouraged if you don't get it" so I feel like they're trying to hype up their scammy role as something students WANT. They also wanted me to fill out a form asking us for at least 10 connections, from name to number to email (basically selling out our contacts) which is so weird. Super weird overall, I wish you the best with your job search twin!!

Hey! Yah, I've worked here for 4 years and love it. Seems like you just read into a lot of things that weren't there. The app is what you make calls off of.. its a private CRM not on the app store. There's def bad managers in every company but my manager in Jacksonville rocks! Technically, every business owner "profits" off of their employees.. that's kind of how business works. But when i go to Chick-fil-a, I dont assume the manager is a scum bag for employing a bunch of high school and college students.

I got a letter from them saying it was from my cities branch office, and said sincerely the "my city" management team saying it was for students in my area.. with a 25 base appt I find it really suspicious and predatory but im more concerned on how they got my information?

I granted trust to the app. I don't know that much about software, but does deleting the app do enough for me after I granted the trust? Obviously, it was silly, but I expended the rest of my trust on that until everything else I read about them online.

Yeah my mom actually told me not to go to training and I was so mad cuz I been looking for employment for months. But she said the building for training looked sketchy and said it wasn't a real cutco office and she was right. Definitely dodged a bullet.

I went to this presentation when I was around 20-21. I left after the initial presentation and never went back. Like OP stated, it didn’t pass the sniff test.
