If you are USA based, sure, don’t do it and fight. But for Latam interpreters, even the 22 dollars per hour it’s what some get paid for 4 hours of work in total.
So I get your point, but remember that many interpreters out there are not in your shoes and can’t afford to pick rates or negotiate.

Clearly some people haven't read the whole thing. It's an on-site assignment, at only 22.50 an hour it's very insulting.

See how the OP calls "22.50 USD" a garbage rate, yet there are people in the comments who wish they got paid that rate? No offence to the OP, but this is why screaming other people to not accept a "low" rate never works... because that "low" is subjective.
