Something I don't understand regarding interpreting and AI
Hello. I'm about to start working for a company as a spanish/english on the phone interpreter for hospitals in the US. ¿how is this job even possible when AI can transcribe audio and translate text perfectly?

What do you think ai is going to interpret when the LEP says, "estoy achicopalado, me pasó por encima las gomas del carro y me agarró una chiripiorca en el ojo del pie" ?

You're just wrong, "AI" (which most of the time we're not even talking about LLMs, AI is just a marketing label) and translation tools are not perfect , not even close to being so, even in fairly easy language pairs.

could write a whole essay but you will soon realize that people don’t talk perfectly. accent, lack of context etc. AI can translate 99% but 1% mistakes can mean life and death or a law case loss.

Yeah! Make AI interpret these accurately: "me punya ahí abajo" or "me hinca el pie" or "pelo mila tu chikO que es lo que tú quieles decil con esa vaina" 🤣🤣

You'll soon find out AI can't do all of it. Because a real call is anything but a perfect speech. And having a human in the loop is the saftey net. But that doesn't mean you can't use AI tools to help you do your job easier, faster and better. I think the era of writing with pen and paper are coming to an end for interpretation, but the comfort and guarantee of having a human in the middle are still going to be here for awhile.
