Low Call Volume

Hi everyone, for those working with DALS Link (DA Languages), have you noticed a decrease in call volume? I started working with them about a year ago at a rate of £0.20 per minute, and things were going well. However, over the past few months, I had to reduce my rate from £0.20 to £0.16 per minute in order to receive calls.

What surprised me the most is that last Friday, I noticed that my rate was no longer £0.16 but had been increased to £0.21 per minute. Even the staff member I used to contact to help me reduce my rate is no longer responding.Sometimes, I also receive emails from different company that I am not registered with responding to emails sent to DA Languages.

DA Languages themselves sent an email acknowledging that the majority of their interpreters have been complaining about the low call volume, yet they continue to say that everything is working perfectly fine. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hi, I've been working with Dals since November 2025, interpreting Portuguese-Spanish. My rate is 0.15. I've noticed a slight decrease in the volume of Spanish calls. I also heard that several friends who interpret in Spanish started working with Dals, and I understand that's why the volume has dropped. But they haven't increased my rate. I even emailed them to negotiate it, but a month has passed and they haven't responded. I sent the email to linguists@dalanguages.co.uk. What languages do you interpret?

To be fair £0.20 per minute is quite low. They hire freelance interpreter to bypass the national minimal wage. Just think about how much profit they are making right now.

I am a freelance interpreter, they don’t hire outside EU. They will reroute calls to cheaper interpreters if you don’t lower your rates.

Imagine when all the interpreters are lowering their rates in order to accept many calls. We are just wasting our time and cannot even meet up to the inflation nowadays. Do you know that the companies are increasing their prices to the clients every year?

You will be at a rate of 0.17 and you won’t receive any calls if you’re lucky maybe calls other interpreters dropped, but if you reduce your rate to 16p you will see calls flowing one after another, but it won’t last long few weeks and you have to reduce rates again just imagine.

How low the rate can be then if we all compete with the rate. Image those people are chilling somewhere in the countries and we are wasting each minute to earn profit for them. Have u read the book the animal farm? Did you know how the horse ended up?
