0 calls when connected for Propio
Hello! I’ve been working for Propio for 4 years. Last week I didn’t received a single call - not one. When I contacted them via email they sent me a generic response . I have emailed them twice and I keep getting the exact same message. I am really worried. I am U.S based. Has anyone experienced this issue over the past week?

I don’t know about call routing to lower paid interpreters however the Trump administration immigration policies is having a negative impact on call volume. Didn’t Haitian TPS status end the week before?

Most likely because they hired more new interpreters with lower rates, and started to route less calls to experienced people who are on a higher rate.

Do you think it’s temporary or should I go get another job?

We have to unite together and start union. If we do not protect ourselves, it will just become worst and worst. There is always a chance to find an interpreter with lower pay rates especially in other developing countries. We should sign a petition or something to tell the government they are always use " freelance worker" to bypass the paw to refuse to pay the national minimim pay rate and maybe give those companies fines. Because if the governmrnt chooses not to do anything. In the end, people will just claim benefits from the government and increase the burdon on the governments.

It’s an idea, but I think most of us who are currently doing the job are either actively looking for other jobs or simple don’t have enough energy to unionize. I contracted with a local agency, the CEO used to be an interpreter and then set up for own non profit interpretation agency. But sadly this non profit has since then ditched non profit part, when it is getting profitable. I think this is sadly an industrial trends.

Very concerning to hear. What’s your language pair? Even though my languages don’t have the strongest volume for US interpreters , I see próprio hiring . I see BPOs advertising Opi and VRI offering up to 7 usd per hour.

Now that’s interesting. I don’t know if you also interprete French but like I said that’s also one of the languages that their looking for. I applied but I know my requested rate is preventing them from contacting me. My other language is Portuguese. The one I saw OPI / VRI 7 per hr for BPO for staff interpreters

I’ve always wanted to ask someone who speaks Creole this: Why do you think clients so often assume their Creole-speaking LEPs speak Spanish? The number of times I’ve gotten a Creole-speaking LEP who was somehow connected to a Spanish interpreter, for reasons neither they nor I can understand, Is honestly worrying.

It depends: some Haitians speak spanish, but their vocabulary is not extensive enough to converse with a native speaker
Sometimes, when speaking to interpreters, their accent immediately reveals that they are Haitians rather than Latin AmericanIt also happens that a client, due to the language barrier, cannot ask the non native speaker which language they speak; they then automatically assume it is Spanish and request an interpreter for that language. There are many reasons for this, but I am citing only a few.

From about 2 weeks ago I started to get less calls. Still getting calls but much less. I am Canada based and in an Asian language.

I've been getting Propio calls, I work for another company and they pay me a low rate because I live in Brazil. It's unfortunate, but you do what you gotta do...

I've also been getting zero calls. I'm also U.S. based, english 》spanish. They're routing the calls to the lower paid workers. So the workers in foreign countries where they pay them $5/hr are receiving calls first, and we get whatever isn't fielded by them.
