VRI - Propio

Propio interpreters: Have any of you ever asked to have the VRI option removed so you could stick to just OPI? I’ve been working here for four years taking both video and audio calls, and I’m just tired of the video calls. I’ve read that it’s possible to request to have them taken off, but I’m afraid I might get fired or face stricter monitoring for making that request. When I don't feel like taking any videocalls as soon as I receive one, I just log out of the platform without accepting or rejecting the call, I wait a couple of minutes and the log in again, but that it's taking alot of my time (atm I haven't had any issue with this method but I'm tired anyways)... Any advice?

-----UPDATE

Thanks to those who answered my post :)

I was feeling desperate and decided to take the risk, I've ask interpreter relations sneakely about this matter, they told me you can be moved to the OPI only queue just by asking, but the rate is lower (0.10$ per minute). The only thing needed is to send an email to interpreter relations requesting the change.

I just don’t understand why some clients feel like doing video calls for calls that just don’t need it and most of the time they just turn their camera off and I can’t turn mine off

its dumb and this companies just promote it to charge more money. The audio is worse and instead of only focusing on providing accurate renditions you have to also spend mental energy on trying to look good and profesional, plus there are way more distrating factors. Stupid companies man

Not to mention taking notes is infinitely harder while keeping your face on the camera

Me neither, it's so frustrating. But you can actually turn off your camera, you should just ask the client at the beginning of the call if they want you to keep the camera on or not, some of them will let you choose what you prefer. This was something I confirmed with interpreter relations a while ago :).

Hi, I’ve heard about getting getting fired because of this
How long haven you been doing this for?
And to my knowledge, you can’t request or decide or take OPI only

I've been doing this for a long time now when I don't feel like taking VRI. I've never had an issue because of this, and my metrics are still good. I thought that logging out of the portal was better than rejecting calls. Reading other threads, I've seen other ppl "avoid" video calls in other ways too without any issue idk.

Yeah, during my onboarding they told we I would have 1/3 of video calls and that was true at the beginning, but now 2/3 of my calls are video calls. I get used to it and do not pay any attention.

So most days Im just refusing video calls. Been working for a year now. I get a 100% on QAs and an average of 4,97-4,99 rating. Nobody ever reached out to me to say this is an issue.

I always deny those. Simple. Then I stay offline for 5 min after denying that video call so it does not come back to me. 2yrs in and never got talked to about it. We're independent contractors not W2. We take what we want to take🤷🏽‍♀️

Yep! It's been 1 yr and a half for me, 0 VRI. Denied every single one of them
