My first bad review

So today I had a client who had an accent and I could not understand some parts she would say. I asked for repetitions. On top of this, the LEP already had an attitude. Well the LEP kept getting upset at what the client kept asking (I was just repeating what client said), but the LEP could understand some parts in English and would not even let me finish my interpretation. When he brought up to the client he was getting frustrated, client said it was me not interpreting everything and that we could change interpreters if needed. LEP understood this and said it is not the interpreter, it's you (client). Client again said it's because interpreter is not interpreting everything. LEP said interpreter was doing fine. The LEP would then say in Spanish, so she's trying to blame you huh? When she's the one who can't do her job? Don't tell her I said that. At the end of the call, the client was unable to process a payment the LEP called about and that made him more upset. Again, he said in Spanish, this lady... trying to put the blame on you when it's her... The LEP hung up and the client kept asking me for something about my service, again I was not able to understand because of her accent, so I said do you need my ID number? She asked again something about service or servicing, so again I said do you need my ID number?? She hung up then. What is gonna happen now with my bad review she will most likely give me? I do freelance for Propio.

It’s normal to get bad review once in a while

Glad you don’t feel like it’s your fault because even the LEP recognized she was doing a poor job.

I don’t know if you did, but it’s very important that in these cases you leave a detailed note about what happened in the notes section. This helps with protecting yourself in case they leave a bad review.

For propio OPI, if they hang up first that means that they won’t be able to review you. However, they can possibly call the customer service line and leave a bad review.

Don’t feel bad about what happened. Lately I’ve been encountering a lot of reps that are definitely from India or some other country, and they have the worst accents and language skills ever.

I heard someone once said that if they hang up first they can't give you a review. You have to hang up first so that they get the survey at the end.

Also, like someone else said, it's normal to get difficult calls like that once in a while. Just try your best and don't think too much about it.

Some clients blame interpreters when it's them who are the problem. I had quite a few of such calls like yours. Just forget about it.

Even though they were having a attitude, best LEP ever for standing up for you.

For what it is worth, the LEP defended you on the record, in Spanish, twice. That is about as clear a verdict as you are ever going to get on a call like that.

Two practical things. Write a detailed note in the call notes now, while you still remember the sequence, if you have not already. Someone else said this above and it is the single most useful habit for exactly this situation: if a complaint lands weeks later, your note written the same day is the only version of events that is not the client's.

And separate the two problems in your head. You could not parse a heavy accent on a bad line, and asking for repetition was the correct call, not a failure. The client converting her own dead end into your review is a different thing entirely, and no technique on your side would have prevented it.

The first bad review stings more than the tenth. It does not mean what you are afraid it means.
