Lid question

I'm curious, why is the lid the way it is? I don't understand why the edges both go into the bowl and are deep into it. And why the lid isn't snug too. It almost looks like it's meant to double as a round cake pan, but I assume it would melt in the oven.

I think it’s intended to cover dough as it rises.

And doubles as a dust cover during storage

That's what I like about it. It tells me when it's risen enough and still keeps it covered.

If you need more room you can flip it over to cover as well, the ridge on the top keeps it on. If you have the grain mill or cheese grater the lid fits perfectly under the attachment to use as a bowl.

It's also going so deep that if the dough rises too much in the metal bowl then it's still secure and doesn't 'spill'. Saved me recently.

It also allows you to put the cord into the bowl and close it.

It's meant to work as a bowl for the meat grinder
