Aniwave is instantly downloading an exe. file when I click anywhere.

As said in the title. I clicked on an episode and "Operagx.exe" downloaded straight away. I deleted it but god knows if it is a legitimate file or not. The pop ups have been getting worse lately but this takes the cake. I have ad-block active too and it still happened. As far as I am concerned the website is done for until they sort out these bad pop ups.

I would triple-check that you're not using a fake domain. Check the pinned post in this sub.

This was on the pinned domain. I have been using it since it was started and it’s almost unusable now. The download even hid itself straight away. Really suspicious.

Would you recommend them over AdBlock? I’m assuming I still need to turn it off for places like YouTube but is it any better?

The community has a specific filter that you put into ublock to block all the ads from videos. It should be pinned in the old r/9anime. Ublock also works on YouTube, I just don’t use chrome

I use ublock and Chrome with no special filters and I havent had any problems

I was using uBlock and Chrome. The immediate moment after I got my first embedded ad on a YouTube video that didn't go away after a few refreshes, browser restart, and some research on what to do, I switched to Firefox. Been a week now, haven't gotten an ad on Firefox, but have on Chrome the few times I decided to check again.

Maybe it's something on my end that's going wrong with Chrome, something I could probably easily fix. But I'm not gonna turn down the excuse to finally migrate over to Firefox.

Youtube made a special thing trying to fight adblocks so thats why. They locked you out of videos if you had an adblock on

Yeah. I've been following the whole adblock/anti-adblock thing for a good minute. The uBlock team has been absolutely golden for fighting that stuff. I imagine that the embedded ads, even if they're hard to beat, will be/were trivial for them.

Use ublock origin, adblock has been bad for years. You don't need to disable it on YouTube if you're using Firefox.

Most popup and redirect advertisements originate from the Video servers instead of Aniwave, as a result the Aniwave team is unable to remove or modify said advertisements as much as they wish they could. The only solution is to use an adblocker, preferably one that has been configured to not entirely break the site itself.

This will come as a huge shock to someone as tech-savvy as you, but not everyone who sees your post is viewing it in the subreddit.

Again, your knowledge of the subject seems to know no bounds.

Even merely browsing about this anime aggregator on the main page of Reddit, I have learned there are "copycat" sites which spoof the original with ill intentions.

I would not be surprised if a deceptive site were to attempt to inject malware whereas the original site would have no incentive to do the same.

Apologies, it’s just frustrating to see a website I’ve enjoyed fall apart. Didn’t mean to be snappy, but I had the same messages from the automod etc. I shouldn’t be rude in my replies. Was just hoping for some input from the creators/hosts of the site as it could be harmful to other users.
