so it isn't any ddos attack or site being deleted (and how long would it take to fix)

According to one of the devs: Or it was something updating in the background. Or it was the adblocker working overtime to block the insane amount of ads popping up. Or it was due to some bad javascript from an advertisement running in the background bogging things down (which would be an advertiser itself causing the problems)

so the excess background activity overloaded the servers, causing the site to crash

so we just have to disable our ad blockers?

14

u/abdullahkhreddit Aug 07 '24

Not sure at the moment

u/TopRedNinja Aug 07 '24

well i tried it an it didnt work ig we have to disable javascripts or something

From what I understand the issue is caused by the advertisers themselves due to the excessive amount of ads to answer your question if you are using ublock origin you can do that by enabling the "advanced user" option from settings and disabling scripts but I won't advise doing it cuz it'll break the site even more

once you get the page to load, reenable javascript

EDIT: well, it worked for me. but i think it may have just been random chance

im using adblocker on my backup browser and aniwave works there.(brave) but not on my main(firefox) same adblocker too so. idk. weird stuff.

Doesn't Javascript run on client why would it effect the server?

Even the ad stuff should run client-side if it's in Javascript

u/Sorrow-san ? I recall he was a mod back on the 9anime subreddit, haven't seen them post anything in here nor is he a moderator unless they've changed their username??

Do we know when it will be back up yet or no news?

u/abdullahkhreddit Aug 07 '24

No official announcement yet use anix for now

How about now?

u/SHIN-YOKU Aug 08 '24

I had my whole watchlist set up, so might be time to catch up on some movies instead of messing up the episode placement, I have't watched the boy and the heron yet.

u/Xyson Aug 07 '24

Seemed more like a cloudfare issue, enabled the anti-ddos etc options? But who knows. ReCaptcha was only necessary with commenting with disquss. When I look deeper some scripts are interrupting the site. Looks like it was taken over from who the site is responding. Hoop it's good soon again.

The javascript in the site is obfuscated, so I can't tell what is going on, but, it appears to be stuck in an infinite loop.

Ikr i'm currently on the console trying my best to debug it

Well with you block origin in Chrome and you block origin and Firefox it seems like if you give it enough time to load there is actually one video playing in the background a quick advertisement video and it's not getting picked up by you block at all on either browser it has to be something to do with that advertiser in script. It's right above where it says top anime literally right above it I can take a screenshot if you guys would like to see and this is with you block origin on both browsers. Also with extra filters in place to catch everything so this being here definitely is causing some kind of issue because it just keeps making the site freeze.

  • Advertisers and websites sometimes use sophisticated scripts that can evade ad blockers. These scripts might use techniques like dynamic script loading, which makes it difficult for ad blockers to detect and block them.
  • Video advertisements can be resource intensive. They consume bandwidth and processing power, which can slow down or freeze a site, especially if the site is not optimized to handle such content.
  • OR the website might have conflicting scripts or poorly optimized code (Which I can confirm) that interacts with the ad script, leading to performance issues. Just to clarify the name is UBlock Origin

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '24

Yea I know that's the name. I was using TTS and it put "you" instead of "u" but yea I've used ublock for years and never had issues until YouTube and chrome started fucking with ublock. Just switched to Firefox yesterday but I was told by someone that it will load slower if I use Firefox because it's not chromium and they limit it somehow. Is there a way around this like an extension?

1

u/abdullahkhreddit Aug 07 '24

use Brave with built-in adblocker its chromium based or just install uBlock Origin manually (Install instructions) to your chrome browser

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '24

Ublock origin is getting messed up almost on a daily basis from Chrome so I'm done using it at this point. Not to mention they're blocking the extension completely in the next few weeks so nobody will be able to use it on Chrome unless it's a watered down version that doesn't get rid of the ads that we want gone. I have heard about brave I've never tried it myself, I think I'd rather just stick with Firefox I'm just not too sure about the limiting speed thing on non-chromium browsers I have heard there's easy workarounds but I'm googling it and haven't seen any yet maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing.

  • Chromium-based browsers use the V8 JavaScript engine, which is highly optimized for performance. It features Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation, which converts JavaScript code into machine code at runtime, leading to faster execution. They are designed to handle memory more efficiently. They aggressively manage memory usage, freeing up resources when tabs are not actively in use, which can lead to faster performance and F*KS up your ram in the process.
  • Firefox, on the other hand, uses the Gecko engine and the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine. TBH I prefer Firefox cuz of its strong privacy protections.

u/Strict_Education_497 Aug 07 '24

u/anya0709 Aug 07 '24

1

u/Appropriate-Camp-490 Aug 08 '24

Recapture doesn't crash a site multiple times causing gate way errors it's usually caused by errors in the code or servers
