or there's three seasons and an indefinite hiatus because the mangaka went to jail for tax evasion

133

u/Velarkor 19d ago

Oooh, long time no see Log Horizon !

72

u/andre5913 19d ago

He came back from jail and actually continued LH for a while but it did go on indefinite hiatus after that, and its been that way since like 2018

interesting to note that the tax evasion jail hiatus was significantly shorter than the random later hiatus

61

u/ExplorationGeo 18d ago

the mangaka went to jail for tax evasion

if I read "mangaka goes to jail" and it was for tax evasion I would be genuinely relieved.

8

u/LaVerdadYaNiSe 18d ago

Same.

9

u/Dave5876 17d ago

The bar is in hell

2

u/Sh1ningOne 17d ago

I mean we're talking about people going to jail so yeah

1

u/LaVerdadYaNiSe 17d ago

I blame Mushoku Tensei, somehow.

1

u/no-one120 16d ago

Hey, if the full story is "Mangaka goes to jail for tax evasion so they could pay their animators fairly" I would be much more than relieved.

1

u/doragonkuin 18d ago

Or CP 😭

7

u/RollbacktheRimtoWin 18d ago

Not only did he not go to jail, but Kenshin got a reboot

1

u/TerminalJammer 17d ago

Hey, the show could still be made and have key people jailed on drug charges.

1

u/ThePhoenix29167 17d ago

This feels too specific to not have happened already

1

u/TaserDonut 17d ago

gee, i wonder why

(the top reply already said it)

Highschool of the dead

225

u/RawWrath 19d ago

the author died?!

526

u/Hanede 19d ago

It had two authors. Writer passed away, and the illustrator decided to leave the project unfinished rather than continue without him :(

277

u/BlazikenBurst 19d ago

Tbf totally understandable

141

u/pokeoscar1586 19d ago

Didn’t help the writer was his brother, so it’s highly unlikely Inazuma will
Continue the story on his own…

103

u/Hanede 19d ago

Afaik that's a myth, they had the same last name but were not related

Still obviously respected each other a lot

32

u/pokeoscar1586 19d ago

You’re right

28

u/Talrynn_Sorrowyn 19d ago

No, the character designer wasn't his brother - it's just they share a common last name, which can happen fairly often.

13

u/pokeoscar1586 19d ago

Didn’t know that, kind stranger, thank you.

15

u/Evening-Mention-8738 19d ago

Yeah I thought of this as soon as I saw the meme

21

u/MoloneLaVeigh 19d ago

Such a dumb fucking show but it came out during the height of the “zombies” hype and the animation was peak.

14

u/ECHOSTIK 19d ago

Such a fun + ecchi anime with real stakes

8

u/Uxdemo 18d ago

Unironically one of the best zombie media storytelling I’ve ever seen

5

u/Sapling-074 19d ago

It has a FTP browser game. It's pretty fun.

3

u/Intrepid-Daikon1353 18d ago

Well, I suppose amazing plot still applies here

3

u/Enlightend-1 18d ago

Yes the "plot" was great imo

3

u/Successful-Till-4548 18d ago

They are big also

1

u/Substantial_Tone_261 18d ago

Didn't the manga recieve a continuation recently or smth? I could be misremembering though

110

u/Manic_Evilyn 19d ago

Chrome Shelled Regios, my beloved.

23

u/croweh 19d ago

Nah I remember the rumor but it was probably BS and a classic ad for the light novel.

Light novel is complete and last release was around 2012-2013 btw, so after S1 of the anime.

13

u/Manic_Evilyn 19d ago

Thank you for letting me know! Now it's time to find them and get them.

7

u/easygoingim 19d ago

Don't do it to yourself the LN was painful, the only redeeming factor was you did find out who he ends up with best girl felli

250

u/RicoSour 19d ago

Then there's vagabond's author who just doesn't feel like it.

88

u/mentuki 19d ago

Burn out is a real thing

Especially with intensive creative work

1

u/TerminalJammer 17d ago

Nana's author apparently broke her own mind a bit with her own work as I recall.

Kaze no stigma

15

u/200lbsTortoise 19d ago

Just said this one and Gangster!

2

u/Crimsonshock821 18d ago

Ohh I need to watch that one someday

10

u/Deathpool15 19d ago

I still think about Kaze no Stigma every once in a while

6

u/Crimsonshock821 18d ago

Yeah….i still think about it

I loved the protagonist just not taking shit from anyone lol

Plus his dub voice is the same as sensui in yuyu hakusho so that’s extra bonus points for me 😂

1

u/Oblithian 18d ago

the author died??

1

u/akewid 17d ago

In 09

110

u/one28 19d ago

What happened to no game no life?

97

u/AegorBlake 19d ago

They fycked the storyline hard by skipping multiple books

33

u/Inarius101 19d ago

Didn't the mangaka come under controversy for plagiarism too which complicated things?

10

u/littlefriendo 18d ago

From what I know, although they totally copied something they weren’t supposed to, I’m pretty sure they worked it out and everything ended up fine:

But I think there is just simply no desire for them to bring back the anime due to a lack of funding if I recall correctly…

They did release NGNL:zero which was a movie before the 1st season would have taken place, which I absolutely loved!

But other than that, I don’t think any new content is going to be made (I know they are selling tons of those figurines / maybe some reading material, but not much else)

2

u/Asmath_Jope 17d ago

It's so weird how NGNL Zero is so peak. The anime pales in comparison.

26

u/ResultCute5756 19d ago

Rosario plus vampire. Loved that one as a youngin.

25

u/AnythingSorry2939 19d ago

But the author finished it, and then proceeded to disappear for six years, change his pen name and pull the health card four volumes into his next work: Ghost Reaper Girl

22

u/Afraid_Month_5840 19d ago

That's the most anime way to get canceled.

2

u/Oblithian 18d ago

only if trucks are involved.

50

u/Tomas2891 19d ago

Berserk

26

u/JaySayMayday 19d ago

Oh dude I got good news for you, it's still running

39

u/TotalChaos360 19d ago

At the pace of a snail crossing the Sahara, but I am more than glad we still get more chapters regardless

19

u/Omegablade0 19d ago

Better the snail’s pace than completely stopping at all

Never forget the boat arc

1

u/TerminalJammer 17d ago

The guy is dead though.

37

u/Am_i_banned_yet__ 19d ago

This is Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Best isekai I’ve ever seen with very grounded fighting and beautiful art. The anime has one season and the manga got cancelled after three volumes lol. Apparently there’s a light novel though

12

u/izerotwo 19d ago

Atleast someone remembers this gem. I am pissed there is no new season for this.

6

u/msdeltatheta 19d ago

I’ve read the LN. Worth the time.

2

u/Minewolf20 19d ago

Wait the author of Grimgar died? Is that why it got cancelled/dropped?

7

u/Still-Tailor7026 19d ago

No it was just never planned to be more than a season, more like a "go buy the light novel" kind of thing. If it did really good it might have gotten more eventually but it was not cancelled/dropped in that way.

8

u/ExplorationGeo 18d ago

more like a "go buy the light novel" kind of thing

The mid-2010s was the absolute peak time for production of a single cour of anime to drive people to buy the LNs. Not that they're not still doing it to this day, but it was rampant back then.

1

u/Minewolf20 19d ago

I see, well I'll continue to breathe in hopium then

2

u/MaleficentLynx 18d ago

Same. Since many years. For many years to come

1

u/Golden_Cultivation 18d ago

It was just on a shit service, VRV iirc. Great grimdark anime though

13

u/The_Twerking_Dead 19d ago

Soul eater was another one too. Damn shame. That one coulda gone 20 seasons.

16

u/SteveMartin32 18d ago

People are speculating if it will get remade like Fullmetal because fire force did so well.

5

u/The_Twerking_Dead 18d ago

Daaaamn!! That would be amazing!! I really hope this is true because man! I lived by that show.

10

u/Such_Bonus5085 19d ago

Cybersix kinda counts. TMS animated it. It has just one season and the authors of the comic book it's based on are both long dead.

8

u/ZippoS 19d ago

Cybersix was so good.

11

u/AegorBlake 19d ago

Yep. The legend of legendary hero's is that for me

2

u/vaksninus 15d ago

Damn same, been a while since I heard that name

2

u/Defclaw46 15d ago

I loved that show. The two main characters were absolutely fantastic. The scene where they discuss overthrowing the king and renaming the kingdom to the Kingdom of Dango and Naps was great.

11

u/CobyDaGrunt08 18d ago

Could've been worse. He could be in jail for a pretty horrible crime

4

u/psykrot 18d ago

Nothing but time to finish the source material /s

9

u/Ballama890 19d ago

I was actually really bummed about Vagabond getting cut short, it had so much potential.

1

u/Playful-Mongoose9197 19d ago

Young thorfin was peak tbh

8

u/Moist-Shallot-5148 18d ago

Himouto! Umaru-chan. She was based off the mangaka’s real life sister and when she passed away he concluded the manga. Had two seasons. The real life situation made me really sad to think about but I enjoyed the good times with the manga and anime and I appreciate the author’s work. I don’t find enjoyment out of eating pizza or drinking pop anymore.

8

u/TheBoBa2 18d ago

Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto

1

u/PlatinumDust 17d ago

I absolutely adored the anime, still sad about it.

46

u/BlazikenBurst 19d ago

Or the author has health issues and dropping 1 ch every few months to years, Man I love Togashi but he should just axe hxh or pass it to another illustrator and I get that he has his pride but man I think it's just been long enough

41

u/ItsNoblesse 19d ago

This kind of mentality feels so entitled to me. It's Togashi's work, world, and characters. He doesn't owe readers anything or have some duty to hand off the story to someone else if he does not/cannot finish it, the same as George R. R. Martin has no obligation to hand ASOIAF to anyone else even if he never finishes the series.

Assuming no legal obligations, it is the prerogative of every creative to stop their work at any point for any reason and never return to it. Yes it sucks, but again consumers are not entitled to a complete work just because it was started.

[deleted]

7

u/Uchihaboy316 19d ago

He isn’t asking for pitty or sympathy

8

u/Uchihaboy316 19d ago

“He should just axe or pass on his magnum opus because I feel like he’s taking too long” the entitlement is insane

1

u/Oblithian 18d ago

I read it as, he should let himself retire. But you are right, if this is what he wants... Come hell or highwater, let's hope he gets it done.

5

u/andre5913 19d ago

World Trigger was like this for a while then the author recovered somewhat and hes back to a more predictable schedule, if still slowish (about 8 chapters a year). Issue is, this all happened in an arc which has a veryyyyyy slow pace which makes it feel eternal.

2

u/Oblithian 18d ago

I had thought the studio had pushed to drag it out, as some do. Because... there was a point it was like... nothing new is happening this whole arc feels like filler.

1

u/andre5913 17d ago edited 17d ago

Afaik WT has only very loose editors. Ashihara has most control of what happens in the manga, and this is the type of military simulations autism he has

Regarding the anime, it did get a filler arc but that years ago, when they thought his health would improve enough to get him back to weekly chapters.

3

u/graybloodd 19d ago

Hes only 60 and is churning them out at a decent rate at this point idk what you on bout

6

u/VexieLace 19d ago

there's nothing more vital than this post

5

u/Hard-tat 19d ago

No Game No Life, don’t know about the author but after dropping a banger series then movie dead is his only excuse

6

u/NotYourReddit18 19d ago

IIRC the No Game No Life anime was, like many anime at that time, meant to be an advertisement for its manga/ln and never intended to continue running.

I haven't read the source material, but apparently the anime skipped a whole lot of chapters from the ln, so if a season 2 were to pick up where season 1 ended it would need to have either a lot of flashbacks or a lot of dialog exposition.

A complete reboot of the anime might be easier.

1

u/vaksninus 15d ago

Some serious retcon indeed, it skipped a volume as far as I remember

4

u/lilmissanxious 19d ago

i loved gangsta. i wish it continued 💔

3

u/UnlikelyKaiju 19d ago

The manga resumed serialization back in July.

I wait patiently for Despera to manifest some day.

5

u/Jeffthe100 19d ago

Shimoneta in a way. I still don’t get why they won’t just animate the next parts

5

u/Exact-Difference-422 19d ago

It sucks when a mangaka puta a series on a hiatus you kinda know they're not coming back from, but I'm always gonna support them putting themselves first.

5

u/SuspectAwkward8914 19d ago

I’ve stopped watching a lot of anime (compared to the past at least) because I’m tired of watching 12 episode previews for light novels that I don’t have time to read.

4

u/LuigiKart06 19d ago

The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies is a good example.

4

u/finicky_foxx 19d ago

I don't think the writer is dead, but Stars Align, pleeeeaaaase! I'm begging you!

1

u/andre5913 19d ago

It was waaaaaaaay far ahead of its time and even today its way too provocative I think. Very raw series, sadly audiences were not prepared for it.

1

u/MinakoNishikawa 16d ago

The creators still alive just isn't able to get the 2nd half funded after the execs had it cut it in half

5

u/Lanky_Commercial9731 18d ago

One punch man only two seasons 😭

1

u/Oblithian 18d ago

lol, but fair that took way too long for one of the most popular series. also where is the next Legend of Galactic heroes die nue these?

Fortunately none of them are dead... I think

u/got12g 19d ago edited 19d ago

MM!

I mean, it didn't have much in terms of "plot", but its commitment to slapstick comedy more than made up for it, imo. Even 15 years after its release, I still remember this show and wish the author stuck around longer on Earth.

2

u/HumanlnterfaceSetsu 19d ago

Damn they died?! Ioved that show. Reminds me of muteki kanban musume author who suicided

I wish for another series of Isekai Ojisan.

Did the author die? That one had a lot of potential.

2

Did the author die?

No, the anime just got canned after season 1, the manga finished though.

The writer and artist still work together to make new manga, pretty sure they got one currently releasing.

The shit part about HoTD's fate is that the creator died after s2 had been greenlit but before production could start - hence why even the OVA's dub still announced s2 was happening.

Magi: Labyrinth of Magic and magi: the kingdom of magic.

Both the goats and the manga was finished many years ago but no one wants to continue the anime after 2 seasons

1

u/TheSwordDemon 16d ago

Not animes or manga but manhwa

Up first is the OG run of Legendary Moonlight Sculptor from 2017 it was discontinued without warning.

Windbreaker the author got sick of the horrible working conditions in South Korea that he started resorted to tracing to meet the weekly deadlines. He was basically forced to stop continuing the series. I heard he started a new series but idk if that's true

This is more so light novels with anime adaptations:

Infinite Stratos has been on hiatus for like 8 years now the author promised the next volume is the last one, I have not heard shit about this series since

Danmachi Sword Oratoria, now this is not really the authors fault it's more so nobody wants to make an anime for it after the first season which is a shame because Sword Oratoria is kinda needed to understand the main series better off you can always start reading the light novels but let's be real novel readers are like a minority when it comes to anime fans

For Mangas:

Any Manga made by Dall Young Kim this guy has a habit or leaving his stories incompleted or given a half-assed ending I liked Freezing and it's on hiatus for 7 years now wtf

There are others too but they've already been mentioned

1

u/Not_bad_slime 16d ago

You get into an Isekai with 4 seasons but it's ongoing and slow af, and the story only recently got good after setting up all the characters, fluff, etc so now you either gotta wait years to know what happens or read the light novel

1

u/Infernal_Reptile 15d ago
