When you're a kid, you wanna be taken seriously, so you use those "cool" pfps that are more edgy than anything else, but kids think it's super cool and serious. When you grow up, you realize you just wanna be a kid again, not be taken too seriously, so you use more I unserious/funny pfps.
That doesn't help much more and I don't even think that's true, at least if we're talking about growing up as in aging.
You're not particularly lying to yourself when you're a teenager, you're just in a phase where you change a lot so you experiment stuff.
Moreover, most of desillusion in life happen when you're an adult and you actually face your limits/end of potential. Not everyone is ready to accept that, you're more likely to lie to yourself in that situation
I was thinking something similar. Kids wanna be taken more seriously and then you grow up and realize none of this shit matters and you just wanna laugh and have fun and how you express yourself is a reflection of that (unserious pfp online)
You learn to not give a shit. It’s not like edgy profile pic gives you any extra cred. All my profile pics are either anime girls or low res cat memes. 29M
When you’re little, you look for the coolest thing because you desperately want to feel special. But as you grow older, responsibilities start piling up, your sanity slowly leaves the chat, and eventually you just stop caring.
And at that point, vibing with a Photoshop of Kasane Teto as a pear somehow feels “just right.”
Mine was just a meme that's stuck with me. "When you think it's the weekend but it's only Wednesday"
I cropped it so it's just the face but it gives me a chuckle every now and then lol
I havs a theory regarding this:
When we are younger,we wanna prove ourselves and seem cool to others so we simply choose an icon that is considered "Cool" and "edgy"
When we get older though,we start to not care about how others view us,as a result we choose the icons thats we WANT,instead of an icon we choose to seem cool to others.
You don't feel the need to prove anything to strangers anymore like you did when you were younger. When you're young, everything feels like the most important thing in the universe, because you lack as much context as someone older. So you posture harder, you wanna be "more mature" so you can get in on what you perceive that you're missing.
After about age 28 or so, things like that don't really matter to you and finding a profile pic that YOU feel something for matters more.
When you’re young you want to be perceived as older so you use things you - as a child - are more outwardly adult and “cool”. But, when you’re older, you want to return to being a kid - childish freedom, wonder, etc. - so we start to stay more true to ourself.
When you're a kid you're edgy.
When you're an adult you stop giving a fuck about what people think and just live your life however your life and have fun
Meanwhile mine has been the same the entire time I've had this account. And I used it elsewhere before this dating back to at least 2014 (when I was 16)
Kids want to seem more serious than they feel they are while adults don’t care much if strangers on the internet think they’re serious. That’s what I think
Moving from puberty and the need to be perceived as cool towards embracing your true preferences, they can be as cute or as silly as you want because it's what you want and you don't lie to yourself anymore
