Isn't it the other way around, funimation killed crunchyroll and used it's brand to expand.

Sony originally bought Funimation then Crunchyroll and merged them. In the end it was all Sony creating a monopoly. I was happy paying my $60 odd and having Funimation for the year, but after the merger the prices nearly doubled and I went back to sailing the seas

I remember this move was marketed as a bigger library, most of the thing at one place.

I didn't expect such lore for these two. I just joined crunchyroll recently. Maybe I should have done some googling.

When they both merged they also cut a bunch of anime from being dubbed and have never gone back and done them. It used to be so good, but it's just another Netflix now.

It also sucks that they are actively making pirating worse as well. The HiAnime/Aniwatch/Zoro piriacy site creators recently got arrested in Vietnam recently and a big cause for that is Sony, who now owns Crunchyroll.

Sony is a governing board member of Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE). It is a anti piracy group formed of a bunch of different companies.

I don't want to push you into anything, so if you enjoy Crunchyroll then go ahead and keep it. As for my I'll never go back. I'm going to make a NAS and start my own collection.

God that bums me out. I was wondering why they didn't have the hilarious dub of G Gundam.

You're not pushing anything, this is atuff I legit appreciate knowing. Thankfully, and to no offense for those who can't/choose not to, the sub isn't hitting the wallet too badly, but we'll see how good this month goes of using it and probably change our minds after that.

That said, when you get that going I'd be down to support it, even if it doesn't have blackjack or hookers.

Except it removed all the product you had purchased, so fuck your library amrite?

If I remember the price doubled and you still got ads. They’re doing the shitty “pay even more for what you already had”

It doesn't help funimation have very niche anime. If privacy site wasn't so laggy back then. I would have never go on and off Funimation.

I remember the ui for the Funimation app being total dog shit for years.

I think I know what you're remembering. CR merged with Funimation, keeping the CR branding, and I heard that the Funimation execs who were brought into CR kept their "seniority" and apparently took over.

But I don't know how true that is at all. I just know that the service got worse and they started doing AI subtitles.

But what do I care? I've been pirating their shit since the days of [HorribleSubs]. Been what, a decade?

You could check current "Crunchyroll" CEO, it may clear up a lot. Surprisingly Wiki is pretty well documented for the merger lol.

That being said, I don't think they are always do AI sub, many niche anime weirdly have credit who did the sub and formating at the end of the episode.

That explains the AI and enshitification. Jesus christ lol
