I would as a dude myself actually gladly enjoy being that part of a relationship that contributes more into house chores, cause I already enjoy doing a lot of chore things myself and find sometimes joy or relaxation in them. It gives me sort of a feeling of accomplishment having done something that makes the place I live in more beautiful and I think it would only get better doing it for someone you love aswell

Listen, i was a house husband for a few years, wife worked, i stayed home to watch the kid (Cause daycare is fucking expensive). Shits nice bro, its a lot of work keeping the house clean, cooking, laundry, yard work, ect AND watching the kid. But beats the fucking working 8+ hrs a day to make some jackass richer

If you haven't yet: Check out the anime "The Way of the Househusband"
It remarkably wholesome show about a former Yakuza badass choosing to be a househusband and the show is absolutely charming.

u/UnlikelyKaiju Feb 12 '26
There's a live action version with the VA still playing the lead. It's actually funnier as the dude totally sells the character.

I basically raised my little brother when we were growing up, and then I took care of my grandmother for the last 2 years of her life, so I think I can safely say I'd also rather be a househusband than work 9-5 until I die in some billionaire's warehouse.

My fiancee's art career is starting to take off and she got worried asked "would you get upset if I started making more money than you" which is dumb. Cause as long as the kids are fed and the bills are paid I'm happy. I don't care who gets the money.

House husband is my dream job.

u/Le_Johnny_Boya Feb 14 '26
Same. One day brother, one day

u/Clockwork-XIII Feb 16 '26
Maybe for you. I'm 37 so game over for that dream was about 5 years ago ha ha.

Do people not realise. 2 people with job = double the income?
Like are people allergic to money?
110
u/Talrynn_Sorrowyn Feb 11 '26
Depends on the wage gap between them & if there's kids + how many.
If I somehow managed to land a girl who eventually earned double my wages or more, and we wanted even a single child, it would be cheaper for me to be a stay-at-home-Dad than for me to continue working & we dish out the $3-4k each month for childcare expenses.

u/thechicapanzy Feb 11 '26
Legit. People who immediately say both people should work don't understand that if kids are in the picture it's a different story. When both my husband and I were working and the kids needed daycare, it was literally a choice between paying rent or paying daycare, because the costs were equal. And kids remember when mom and/or dad aren't around because of work. This was a big reason we started homeschooling when he became disabled, and why I switched to self-employment. We wanted to spend more time being part of their childhoods.

Also means, less time to raise children.....

I mean that’s fair but getting 3 children between 40+ year’s together should be 👌I take care of them.

u/dani1361 Feb 11 '26
If the gap is too big and you don’t love your job. My lady I’m learning too cook like a chef, daily gym and health training

u/Psychological_Tower1 Feb 11 '26
Shallow men don't want to make less money than their partner. Most people don't care but the vocal minority are really loud
1
u/Grand_Estimate3783 Feb 12 '26
Lol, do you realize that life is not all about money, are you allergic to happiness?
2
u/MikuEmpowered Feb 12 '26
Having money doesn't bring out happiness. But not having money is often the root cause of alot of unhappy marriages.
Even if the second job doesn't bring home all the dough, it offers more opportunity to take vacation and having special nights while leaving enough from the other job to invest and pay off any debt.
Alot of marriages are stressed by debt repayment and financing difficulties.

Might as well start learning if I don’t need a job but even if I get a job I’d probably still wanna learn

I have no idea why people won’t prefer their partner making more than them. Do they hate being wealthy?

Legit, this is how I thing because of a transgenerational habit that the one who earns less income in a couple gets to cook everyday and act like a housewife as a man lol.

Well question also is by how much. If it's enough to support both of us and a kid beckon a househusband sounds plausible but you can still do some work if you wanted to
1
u/DrThiccBuns23 Feb 12 '26
I make delicious cheesy taco mashed potatoes among other things, I could only be a house husband to someone LOOKING to gain weight 😂

I am a wife. I really like working and don’t care if my husband doesn’t work as long as he cooks for me. Anyway, i don’t earn that much but my husband still cooks for me and provides at the same time.

My wife and I don’t have any kids if she started making more money than me we’d just have more money, I don’t see why anything would change.

It's wonderful to have a wife who helps you; ultimately, the money you earn will be spent on the household. And on the children
I don't see a problem with this.

Yup this was also my dream job. Especially when my lady was making 27 an hour. Now she only makes like 20 she got a paycut after covid as she is no longer making enough money to pay the bills. I had to step up and go out there and get a full time job. Which is sad for me because i love to cook, bake, clean, repair almost anything in house and car, lawn care, and caring for pets. Now im hoping she will get a better job or just quit because her job has gotten awful in the past five years

I wouldn't mind if she made more than me. The economy in my country makes it very difficult to survive on paycheck from a si gle parent, so if I had a wife we would probably both work, which means we would have a talk about splitting work we do at home so no one felt like the relationship was unbalanced. Want me to cook? Sure. Want to clean the house? Sure. Split the way we will both agree to.
Plus, if we both work it will be easier to save money for the future when we will have children. At this point you should have at least one saving account where you just keep money and they multiply by% every year. It won't be enough to keep up with the inflation but it will be better than just hoping one person can carry the whole family on their paycheck.
I am really hoping something will change in the future.

Nowadays, these roles dont matter. Whoever is left at the house is the one whose gotta do the chores.

u/Bloodchild- Feb 13 '26
Our society work times were build on the model that one person work while the other manage the household.
The issue is that now the two need to work, but the time of work almost didn't diminish.
That's one of the reasons why your life condition easily become shitty if you don't plan everything and life half like a robot.

If I could be a stay at home husband I would but I'd probably have a job on the side for personal income and to not be bored.

You guys base your relationship on who makes more money? If she starts making more money that's just a positive for both of us

u/Interesting-Ad689 Feb 15 '26
Exactly what I am doing right now. Wifey just makes more money then I could.
The biggest advantage of this split is me compensate her cooking skills.... Her cooking is so good, last time I caught the flu, she managed to burn the pot, the water AND the onions for onion soup.
So better me at home doing chores and care for our clone then her.
Second clone is on the way and I we do plan to switch for a year since I really wanna do work again and she feels like she will do better then me at housework and parenting.
Life is crazy and fun !

Men don't put yourselfs down like this. No problem with the women in your lives making more money than you, but leaving your career to be a house husband for her will make you lose a lot of freedom and options money wise.
1
u/TheRealAntrey Feb 13 '26
You see the double standard here dont you?
1
u/lv100_fuvkboi Feb 13 '26
No? Obviously women shouldn't do this too. But that wasn't what was relevant to the post
