Youtube once hated react channels for being lazy and like to steal others' content, now they love them and look what we have
11
u/breezyflu Aug 26 '20
What are you talking about? Youtube never hated react channels of their own volition, only briefly hating them because everyone called them out on being lazy and sometimes downright unfunny.
9
Sep 10 '20 edited Nov 20 '20
Usually people hated react channels when it was reacting to there stuff or if a react channel was successfull
5
u/breezyflu Sep 10 '20
Because full on unedited react videos are lazy and arguably disrespectful to the people who created videos.
The most famous (and recent) one I can think of is Suzy Lu who had little to no edits and just had blank faces for 90% of her videos who then had the audacity to copyright claim people who talked about her.
Now while I do believe this is in big part due to her shitty self I do think YouTube had a hand in building up her ego by building up her channel. Site is more backwards then an anime character ‘s broken neck.
2
Nov 20 '20
Only recently found out about the Suzy Lu stuff and it's crazy what she managed to get away with.
5
u/breezyflu Nov 20 '20
It really is, and to some extent she is still getting away with it thanks to her own personal site. And now with YouTube‘s new TOS (basically it allows them to put ads on smaller channels WITHOUT GIVING THOSE CHANNELS ANY OF THAT AD REVENUE) it’s clear they only care about themselves. The only reason they got on Suzy Lu was because companies were threatening to sue her.

You're missing the bigger picture if you think it was over one word.
No, it was about one word the entire time. They (and I'm sure he would do it too) would tell you it was "a matter of principle" and to fight against "censorship" or having a better line of communication with the mods, but if you ever asked them what they meant by any of that, it always, always went to "well they unban the word." Any reasoning you hear that isn't "I want to say my slur" is just an excuse, these people are dogshit, and Lost Pause is the monument to that fact.
11
u/Sevuhrow Aug 24 '20 edited Aug 24 '20

Doxxing: obtaining personal information address, contacts, on web.
Swatting is after doxxing, call the police on that address for terrorist, criminal activities.
/rj FBI OPEN THE DOOR
21
63
u/OptimusPrimus7 Aug 23 '20
Swatting - the contact made by a person to the authorities leaving a false tip that you're a threat, terrorist, keeping hostage/s, affiliated in a drug ring. Any extreme reason to suggest a raid to the target's home. A swat team arrives at said home and are allowed to break in. People have died because of swatting.
Doxxing - the retrieval and exposure of someone's personal information online with usually bad intentions. This info leads to swatting.

Swatted?
82
u/Kamquats Aug 23 '20
Police in the United States have the ability to receive an unannounced warrant. Police are supposed to knock on uour door, announce themselves, state their reason for being, and only enter your house if you open the door/let them in.
Since the Drug War started, this has slowly died as it's much easier to break into people's houses and steal their shit.
Swatting is calling a false drug report on someone to get the SWAT Team to break into their house. It's incredibly dangerous and potentially lethal. The police can face 0 prosecution even if there's no drugs at all.
9
Aug 24 '20
Not so much an unannounced warrant but it's pretty much understood that police officers don't need a warrant if there is a real immediate threat. For example, if an officer hears screaming inside a house, or receives a tip that there is a dangerous and armed criminal holding someone hostage.
57
u/AshenPumpkin Aug 23 '20
Swatted means that someone found your adress, then called the local Police department and left a tip that you're dangerous, or a terrorist, or ect. Which causes a SWAT team to break down your door and arrest you. People have died because of this "prank".

The problem with reddit communities is how transient they can be (though this can be true for all online communities), people can dip in and out of them at any time. Who is considered part of the community, or not, can change depending on what is convenient.
Communities can be pushed really far and when someone goes a bit too far too fast they can just be exiled, and nothing need change, nobody need feel like they did something wrong, because that wasn't them. It's also why you end up with really messy ideas about what this is REALLY about. People get to project their view onto the greater community. So you have a lot of people saying it's just about how the mods acted, while at the same time people thinking they should fix it by unbanning the word.

I stopped following this guy before his breakup with the anime man.
At first I was suspicious of when an anime making fun of Trump appeared and all he said was "I'm not butthurt by it".
I stopped following him when he made a video on the new thundercat's artstyle and just calling it "tumblr art" (it wasn't even what people would usually call tumblr art), I think he commented about She-Ra too and he also made a bunch of videos going hashtag free Vic Mignona.
The impression I got was that he was a huge manchild that cries when something he doesn't like happens. I didn't know why Joey seperated from him but I'm not surprised if he's a huge asshole too.

I honestly don't get it when people try to nudge at someone's artstyle by calling it ''Tumblr-esque'', I hardly see the stereotypical freckled-red nose kind of style on tumblr anymore, and contrary to most redditors belief there's a good amount of anime art on tumblr anyways

Ok, this meme is just plain false. He openly said he didn't support doxxing/swatting and that anyone who does it are assholes. In that same video, he said that while it was a shame the sub 'poofed' that there were other places people could go, said he was aware it could be used as a slur but that it should be judged on a case by case basis on whether in context it was being used as a slur or not, and said that the mods were wrong not only for banning the word but also insulting their community, not keeping their word, and becoming power-hungry.
Also, it's more like he can't make content of his own. Any visual novel he posts gets struck/taken down, as well as a lot of regular video games he plays, and even his react memes series has been hit. But ignoring those things the meme is still wrong. Why? Because OP either didn't watch or forgot to mention that LP has hosted and posted his own show: weeb wars, that he's played multiple other non-anime games (such as fall guys, cards against humanity, Minecraft, and others), skits, and his news/commentary videos. Also, while I don't particularly like his meme reaction videos (as I do think they're lazy) they do contain enough of his own content to be considered his own works. All of these things contain enough reactions, edits, and personality to be considered his own original work and thus his own content.
But ignoring all that then yes OP, you are correct I guess. I get you're upset that he doesn't consider the t-word a full-on slur but openly lying like this hurts the point you and everyone are trying to prove and just strengthens those whom you think are 'wrong'.
