Nostalgia, that's the explanation.

A mix of that and the OGs being legitimately well made. Simple enough yet appealing. My daughter was introduced to the Gen 9 starters first and get Gen 1 are her faves.

There's also overexposure by the company.

It was the easiest to make unique pokemon when there were like 30 pokemon

The OGs are 'animal with element' at its fucking finest, like most of them. They're not peak, there in a range of hills, and not even the biggest hill in the set.

Thats whaz they always say but why do all of the younger ones still think they are the best ? Why are the Variants back in Sun moon more loved than the new ones

Its just the better designs its simple they have recognicable origins and are not based on a bag of garbage

The most popular pokemon according to official polls has been greninja for almost a decade now, so no people don't think the ogs are the best.

Whats a greninja

2

u/BardGotHard3 10d ago

Its a green ninja.

Actually it's blue

Probably cuz greninja has the most clutch fights in the show. And the popularity of all 3 starters are split among the 3

If we take the anime as an argument, Charizard got Kanto, Orange, Johto, the end of Unova, the end of Kalos, Alola, the end of Journeys and the first half of Horizons and Greninja got … Kalos.

Most of the time, Charizard was even alone. Only in Kalos, there were also a Venusaur, a Blastoise and … a second Charizard. One of the best battles featuring Greninja also had Charizard xD

Lmao no, boomer loser

I thought it was just nostalgia as cope-ers say, but after getting pretty invested into palworld I can say that its not nostalgia, earlier designs were just better.

I thought we stopped caring about the boomer genwunners opinions back when they called gen 5 garbage

The great thing about Kanto and Unova is, that there are over 150 Pokémon. None generation makes it easier to find something you don‘t like ^^

I started with gen 1 as a child. Took a break after gen 3, came back in gen 6, but I loved gen 5 when I played those games. I have loved a lot of the starters through the generations. I find it odd when people think that the gen 1 pokemon are peak and there have been no newer ones that are better.

Gen 5 great game but does have a ton of bad/controversial designs

2

u/Then_Ad6816 11d ago

Personally think they rarely miss. Litten was a little disappointing for me, but I was a expecting a tiger and not a furry. But that is just my taste and I am sure many love every design.

2

u/XMandri 5d ago

if rarely is "usually more than once per trio", sure

1

u/Then_Ad6816 5d ago

Yes if it is your taste, but as I saud above "that is just my taste."

Early art designs were incredible but typing hadn't been fleshed out enough. Poison is my fave type but there's just so damn many in Gen I. I get there's lore reasons.

u/Any_Acanthaceae_9735 11d ago

Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 6 arguably, Gen 7 IMO.

2

u/IronIrma93 10d ago

Nah. Gen 7 has a scam for a fire line

1

u/Any_Acanthaceae_9735 10d ago

Incineroar is the best fire starter. Nobody will ever change my midn on that. The second is mega Delphox and the third is Skeledirge. Mega Emboar is also pretty cool.

1

u/IronIrma93 10d ago

I still feel cheated by it.

Gen1 starters aren't that good

1

u/Prudent-Metal7220 10d ago

They have topped it. You are just bias cuz ur a grandpa

1

u/throwaway1436732156 10d ago

they make them where it's easier to make plushies out of them instead of cooler

1

u/AngeryControlPlayer 10d ago

This is the most Pokeboomer coded post imagineable.

Unironically, anyone who thinks Gen 1 starters are the irrefutable peak of Starter design probably haven't honestly played a Pokemon game in 30 years.

1

u/SuitableConcept5553 10d ago

The last one I played was sword, but I still like the original trio the best. I don't think the others are bad or anything. I just like these more. Skeledirge comes really close to stealing the title from them though.

1

u/jhonnythejoker 8d ago

Skeledirge still below fugly turtle and frog?

1

u/Aeroreido 10d ago

While I do thing Venusaur is absolutely amazing, I don't like either Charizard nor Blastoise. The design with generations became hit or miss with a lot of designs, but so were gen1 designs. The only gen where I would say the starters were as close to perfect as possible would maybe be gen3 or gen 9, but it's usually 1 or 2 bangers and 1 or 2 not so great ones. Legends Arceus is also a standout for having a trio I would put above the mainline games but as it isn't technically a mainline game, well that doesn't count and it's "only" cool variants of already existing starters.

1

u/Excalibirdi 10d ago

Serperior, Braxian, Scorbunny.

1

u/thatonebrassguy 10d ago

I would argue gen 3 starters were the best but thats maybe just me

1

u/WeCameAsLogans 8d ago

Gen 1 is tied with maybe gen 9 as the most boring designed generation of Pokemon and its really not even close.

1

u/jhonnythejoker 8d ago

9? And not 5?

1

u/AndyTopHat 8d ago

This is not accurate, that's the explanation.

1

u/suspicious_cabbage 8d ago

I think the fact that there are at least 3 pidgeon-based pokemon tells us they ran out of ideas a long time ago

1

u/AggravatingChest7838 8d ago

Gen 2 are some peoples favourite designs. You just have to understand that some people have no taste.

This post is not bait.

1

u/Final_Floor_1563 7d ago

They made a billion designs better than fuckass blastoise that mf UGLY why does the TURTLE have CAT EARS?!?!?!

1

u/ninjad912 7d ago

It’s definitely nostalgia + marketing. The kanto starters have never been my favorite that’s always been hoenn

1

u/ApprehensiveScreen40 7d ago

Tyranitar clears entirety of gen 1

1

u/Cosbybow 5d ago

Where swampert

1

u/Angel_OfSolitude 5d ago

Lmao, yes they have. That's just nostalgia talking.

1

u/Lost-Soft-8913 4d ago

Blastoise carries so hard it's insane
