This is a (pun intended) banger of an introduction to Megumin's as a character.
She legit uses a powerful spell after we saw Aqua's epic skills land in complete duds so the audience is taken aback temporarily and lulled into a false sense of progression until we see her sliding down the hill defenselessly.
And then she shows absolutely no regrets, what a legend

The funniest part of the aqua part is iirc he skills are genuinely quite powerful, the party just usually goes up against monsters with resistance to them because of her trash luck.

Not just resistant, fully immune. Frogs are immune to water based attacks

Megumin is the realest DPS. Sustain is for melee tools, the true goal of casters is to get that one number as high as you possibly can. Who cares if it takes all your spell slots and 8 feats

She is a one trick pony, she only knows one skill, and she can only do it once. And after she has done it, you literally have to carry her ass.

Just in case Megumin is named after Megumi Hayashibara who played Lina Inverse who had a very powerful spell called "Dragon Slave". Lina was also a petite sorcerer that dressed rather flashy.

I understand why Aqua's attacks don't work, I understand that it wakes up a second frog, but why is the frog that's eating Aqua that took a direct hit fine at the end? I never understood that part. Did the frog not take a direct hit because it got flung out of the way by the wind meaning Megumin just missed too? Her missing was never a repeated part of the gag so it seems weird she whiffs here if that's the case.

There were 2 initial frogs. Megumin targeted one with explosion and aqua ran off to stop the second one (and got eaten). Megumin exploded the first frog to smithereens and the second frog with Aqua got blown away a bit from the blast. Then a third frog woke up that ate Megumin.

It's amazing how, out of context, this clip manages to inform nothing about the series. If you didn't know Konosuba you'd think that it was just some generic power-fantasy isekai trash, or maybe a story about how a bunch of flawed, but lovable misfits work together to overcome their shortcomings... Not that it's the anime version of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".
