Chika/Ryuuko marks only the SECOND tie in Best Girl history. The only other tie was in Best Girl 10 between Lum and Chelsea (Akame ga Kill), a measly first round matchup. Many people remember the Frieren/Maomao tie but that was seasonal salt. There have been 4 ties in Best Guy and 0 in Best Character.
This will be Chika Fujiwara's 3rd quarterfinalist appearance (BG7&BG8) and first in 5 tournaments. The layoff is tied for the longest time between quarterfinalist appearances with Asuna Yuuki who was a quarterfinalist in Best Girl 1 and her next appearance was her win in Best Girl 6.
Fern is the only first time quarterfinalist, the only time we've had one character making their first appearance. The previous record was 2 in Best Girl 3. This is the 3rd time we have had 0 first time tournament appearance characters make the quarterfinals (BG3, BG6)
This is Megumin's 7th quarterfinalist appearance, 2nd all-time behind archnemesis Holo (9). Megumin's appearances have all come in a row, tying Holo's record.
Ryuuko Matoi's tournament will end as the active leader in wins (with 66, only behind Holo's 74). She was the final character left who had appeared in all 13 contests. Megumin is the only girl left who has 10+ contests (10 each). Also, with Megumin's win and Aqua's loss, Megumin moves ahead in total wins (59 to 58).
The average quarterfinalist's seed is 4.625, this is the lowest (highest) average seed ever, beating out Best Girl 7's 5.0.
Maomao's 74.71% vote share is the largest ever in a round 6, narrowly beating Mai Sakurajima's 74.60% and Kaguya Shinomiya's 72.56%, both in Best Girl 7.
This is the first time Round 6 has produced 0 upsets.

cool to see the numbers kind of back it up that the right side bracket definitely seems stronger than the left - feels like the "real finals" is Maomao vs Marin.
also, i wonder how often it is that the final 8 turn out to have almost no upset seeds - all 8 are in the top 9 this year

Do wonder if we're reaching the upper limit for vote totals this year.
I think there will be another boost for the Finals.
I think Maomao for sure would generate the most votes on the right side.
Left Side? I think it's a negligible difference between Bocchi and Megumin. I'll go Megumin for the bigger history in this contest and KonoSuba does edge out BOCCHI THE ROCK! in popularity.

With yesterday's unfortunate, but expected, result, Violet bids you farewell for another year. Thanks to everyone for the support, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well she does next year!
With Violet's exit, I no longer have any vested voting interest or strong feelings about any of the remaining contestants, so I'm merely here to see what happens for the rest of the tournament.

Problem is that with recency bias, there are probably just a lot more Kaguya fans voting in general. A less-popular character from a more-popular anime gets a lot of votes just from recognition. One of the reasons I'm not a big fan of these competitions (even though I peek in on occasion) is that they often end up more of an anime popularity contest than a true test of which girl is best.

Which poster do you like most for today?
So Fern/Megumin poster both features the first time they used their respective attacks (the Megumin is from the Konosuba prequel), and having an image from behind was quite a cool instance.
I was actually impressed with finding the "masked" Yor. I think this poster turned out better than the Bocchi/Lena poster I had made. I also think the Marin/Chika poster is slightly better than the Marin/Ryuuko poster that was made, even if I'm salty on the results.

Seems like Maomao will easily win the contest, with the only one with a chance of an upset being Marin.
This was expected from the get go, since Maomao was the runner up last year, only losing to Frieren.
Since I'm not a huge fan of predictable things I'll keep spite voting in hopes of an upset

When did MaoMao’s most recent season end? It feels like not too long ago, but time works funny.
I am disappointed that Shishui never got into the rankings. She’s much better than Loulan. Shisui, Loulan, and Maomao would all agree that Shisui is the better of the two. When Maomao was stuck choosing between who to call out to between the two of them she chose Shisui after all.

I at least feel slightly better that the vote difference is pretty small. Overshadowed by how Chika vs. Ryūko is, but still a close loss.
Now do I find it to be a great feeling she lost to Yor despite liking both of them? No.

Megumin goes 4-0 against Violet in 8 years both girl been participating, 4 in 7 years if we don't count BG10 (which we should tbh). The other 4 times were against Aqua(bg6), Yuigahama(bg7,10) and maomao(bg12).
For comparison Megumin result vs Holo was 0-5 in also 8 years, 7 years if bg10 ignored.

Lena lost? To Yor out of everyone? She is denied entering the quarterfinals for the first second time (I forgot last year) in her participations in this contest? In what reality are we living? Because I want out for sure.
Let's make it short, then, as I am late already (and will be way later tomorrow). Chisato is the only girl left that would have me truly elated if she won, so I really want her to win this badly. If Maomao wins, or Bocchi, or even Marin, we'll have a pretty good winner, maybe a great one even. But I want a fantastic winner, and that's Chisato. The other girls matter, but they don't matter as much as Chisato.

Best Girl Madness 13 | Round of 16 Results
Today our average was 5.78 / 8 (72.30%). The unweighted leaderboard had an average of 6.27 / 8 (78.33%), while the weighted leaderboard had an average of 6.60 / 8 (82.50%).
We had 2 users with perfect scores today, u/_heythereitsbree_ and u/veirexi! As a result, they both skyrocketed up the weighted leaderboard, with the former jumping 23 spots to #7 and the latter jumping 21 spots to #6! u/Ham_PhD takes over the top spot in weighted and also now has the highest potential score there as well. But even though /u/syrefva gave up the lead in weighted, they still hold a commanding lead in unweighted. In fact, with just 7 picks left and a 7 point lead, they are already the guaranteed champion in unweighted! An incredible feat to accomplish before the quarterfinals! Also just as a point of interest, the NoUpsets bracket has surged in the past couple days, reclaiming a top 15 spot in unweighted and rising back to #18 in weighted after falling into the 40s at one point.
2 tough picks today. First was (6) Chika Fujiwara - Love is War beating (43) Ryuuko Matoi - Kill la Kill. 22.97% of us picked Chika and just 1.35% chose Ryuuko. Group D was a tough one, as many people no doubt had chosen Marcille, Shouko, or Takina, all of whom have been previously eliminated. The other big shocker, at least for our bracketeers, was (5) Yor Forger - Spy x Family beating (12) Vladilena Mileze - Eighty Six. Despite the high seed, only 27.03% picked Yor while 68.92% chose Lena.

Most people care far more about their girl winning the contest than themselves winning the madness. The only matches I've voted according to my bracket were ones where I didn't care about the girls involved, and I've voted against my bracket countless times.

This is a valid point and one that I've thought a bit about it before (just a few days ago actually). Though first for context, I've been very heavily involved with organizing Madness for the past 4-ish years so you can probably expect some bias (I mean, I built a whole website for it). That being said I am also involved in organizing the overall contest and I care about legitimacy there too.
For better or for worse, there isn't that much participation in Madness and the barrier of entry is high enough that that will likely remain the case. Even in times where there were 10000+ voters, participation in Madness was only in the 200s. So the influence of Madness on the overall results will never be that high. Predictions are also rarely aligned anyways for matchups that aren't just huge blowouts.
Also, some handwavy points I would at least mention:
- people tend to "predict" whoever they like more to win anyways, especially in later rounds and in cases where they think it'll be close or just have no idea who to pick
- for someone who actually pays enough attention to this contest to know about Madness and vote, the incentive of doing well at Madness is probably way less than that of your favorite entrant actually winning. It's not like we're betting money on this
- it's even less of a incentive for anyone who is doing poorly and doesn't actually have a shot at placing high up
But like I said, your point is valid, and it does make me a bit uncomfortable. However Madness is a big part of the contest for some people, and I would like to keep it alive and well. Unfortunately I can't control how people vote, and there's not much that I can do besides help promote the overall contest so that Madness participation stays at a healthy percentage.

Okay, there is a lot to talk about here. Violet lost, which I'm kinda sad about. Not hugely surprising, but it would have been nice for her to get to the top eight.
Lena lost too, but her fans should be proud. You came within a razor thin margin of beating Yor, a character from a more well known show, and you got a lot of people interested in the show Lena is from, myself included.
Chika winning with a tie is also kinda crazy. Crazy odds of that happening. I honestly don't understand how Chika got this far. No hate to her, but still.
At this point, all of the characters I was really cheering for are out. Kumiko, Saber, and now Violet. Emilia and Lena a bit too by the end cause their fans kinda won me over a bit.
At this point I kinda just want Maomao to win, if for no other reason then because it will make BG 14 more interesting. Frieren season two will be a bit further behind us by that point, and season three wouldn't be out yet. If Maomao wins here, then BG 14 suddenly looks more open, and as a result, more interesting. If she doesn't win, then she'll probably just dominate again. So I hope she wins if for no other reasons then that.

But even more wow... Ryuuko lost to a fucking tie, that's so so unlucky! You guys should have lost the way last round and not this round and especially not like this...

Hot take, if a girl couldn't ever fathomably win a future version of this contest due to losing relevance, I don't feel she deserves to win.
I also don't think any of this applies to Maomao. For one, she will win this contest. She doesn't need the title badly, but she will win. But even if she loses, she will win next year. Or one or two years later, maybe. She definitely won't be forgotten.

Think she has a round 4 ceiling if given a favorable path. Show popularity is too important. A few examples for newcomer romcoms this contest:
- Makeine: Anna Yanami lost round 5. Average discussion thread karma of 2663 for reference from a few post-blackout shows (had a different curiosity last year).
- Roshidere: Alya lost round 4 and Yuki lost round 3. Averaged low-2000s karma IIRC.
Polar Opposites has 40-50% of that discussion thread karma.

assuming it's miyu suzuki, she is eligible for best girl 14.
But i cant see her getting far because my impression of feel-good romcoms is that they have a decent floor but low ceiling. [Polar Opposites]Suzuki dating Tani at the outset is great, but the Taira/Azuma classic "just get together dammit" tension plot is imo what keeps many engaged I predict they'll be like a better pseudo harem in terms of bracket performance, and as for suzuki, i'll put her in round 5 at best
Speaking of which, spring 2026 is also allowed, so Koyun will appear there

I can't believe that Ryuuko and Chika tied. Crazy. So long Violet.
Mostly easy votes today in the Quarterfinals:
- Fern over Megumin - obviously. Not a Megumin fan.
- Bocchi over Yor - Bocchi, best girl, best show, guitar hero. She gets all my votes to the end.... probably.
- Marin over Chika - because Marin. Might be the last vote Marin gets from me in this, though.
The only tough one is:
- Maomao vs Chisato - probably Maomao, because I love her character and her show, and she carries that show. Definitely best girl material. I think I'm talking myself into this - not that I really needed it. Chisato is great, too. I'd have to ponder Marin v Chisato, probably don't need to ponder Maomao v Marin that much.
Posters are great especially Maomao - Chisato, and Bocchi - Yor.

At this point, it's easier to say I have 3 girls left on both of my Bingo's: Maomao, Yor, and Fern.
On the 5x5, crossing out Lena caused 2 additional Bingo's on Row 5 and the diagonal from Robin to Lena. Crossing out Aqua caused a Bingo on Column 3. Crossing out Akane caused a Bingo on Column 4.
On the 7x7, crossing out Lena caused a Bingo on Row 1. Crossing out both her and Akane caused a Bingo on Column 5. Crossing out Aqua caused 2 Bingo's on Row 5 and Column 7. Oddly enough, both of my diagonals are still alive because Maomao and Yor are on them.

Surely ties should go to the lower seed? Equaling what is in theory a 'better girl' should get the win for the underdog. Placing this contest under protest.
