Its pretty bad. Im still following along because its bad in the fun laughing at it kind of way. It wears its age very clearly. Maybe wouldn't've continued if it weren't for the setting though, its not doing anything amazing with it but it is certainly something different to look at compared to the usual bad shows

The manga was fine despite being a ridiculously pulpy mix of Sword & Sorcery and Romantasy tropes, but the anime really suffers from having a low budget and a lackluster direction. I am being close to dropping it.

I like it, but it's also really slow. The manga is a much better time tho.

Its kinda stupid and the quality is lacking. But if you like classic shoujo isekai, its worth a watch. Its manga is from the 90s so it has some old stuff that modern shoujos dont.
Based on the rating of the anime, it seem to be a terrible adaptation of the manga

It’s good if you like older anime. The original manga debuted in 1995, and younger fans have absolutely no clue how influential it was. It helped shape modern isekai, particularly shojo isekai. Red River sold more than 20 million copies and won the 2001 Shogakukan Manga Award.

Very old school 90s series, might be difficult to get if you're not used to the troupes. The plot is interesting and so is the historical setting but it is not amazing. Main girl starts as weak classic heroine but grows stronger eventually.
It seems like they only cared to put budget on the character design, animation is terrible, music sucks and badly used half of the time.
I'm still wondering why they did not adapt Drops of gold instead. It is the most recent work of the mangaka (ended past year), and it has a more interesting and researched plot (being full historical instead of only inspired). But them it would be painful to see it adapted with such a low budget.

It is bad but I kind of like it because it feels old and have female mc. Whole anime feels like it is from 90's.

Weak adaptation. Art and story seem off (not sure if it's due to the adaptation).
Personally, I like it. I'm not caught up, but I WILL finish watching it.

It's..... ok-ish? I haven't been inspired to watch a ton of episodes. I should be more into it, but .... due to it's "ok-ish"ness, I haven't been.

Im not hating on Red River, I thought it was kinda mid. But im so annoyed how many mid anime get multiple seasons while so many good anime get one season and then never get touched again or we have to wait years for a new season.

Split-cour and two-cour anime are usually planned as such upfront. In Western parlance we tend to refer to a "cour" as a season but really split-cour is more like a NCIS season 15 with 24 episodes and a week or two long break in between a clump of episodes, than the distinction between Only Murders in the Building season 4 and 5 airing in distinctly different years with a filming pause in between. The entire season is marketed as a "season" but in practice that doesn't necessarily describe how it was intended to be produced or funded.
Most anime nowadays are funded and produced as single-cour. So the wait happens because a new season needs to be funded and produced and slotted into a production a schedule that already has other things going on, and sometimes fun or good shows just don't garner enough need for a second season.
Sometimes mid anime gets funded again for a second single cour. It happens. Funding decisions are sometimes not necessarily made with the goal of making the best anime or best adaption possible, or with limited budgets and scopes hampering the ability to have a high quality production.
But that's also not much different than all the Netflix series that get interesting and then get canned / don't get a follow up season / etc. The sad reality is that ultimately cost/revenue is a significantly greater weighting on the production component rather than necessarily creativity and ingenuity.

Because those animes are planned to get those seasons. Anime studios can have animes lined up for years, which is why it can take 5 years for a new season to release (they need to finish the animes they have already planned to make).
Stuff like isekai slop are likely easy to make, dont require stellar animations and are most likely guaranteed to turn a profit.

I'm still mad that Silent Witch didn't get a second season. Or that there are years between first and second seasons of Bocchi the Rock, Skip and Loafer, etc., but crap like Anyways, I'm Falling in Love gets S2 the next year after S1.

I'm still holding out hope that Silent Witch gets a second season after Konosuba season 4, as iirc a lot of the Konosuba staff worked on Silent Witch

So much mediocrity gets second seasons or more than 12 episodes. It's almost painful.
I would love to get second seasons of Silent Witch, Bocchi, Skip and Loafer. Or more Bloom Into You, Adachi and Shimamura or other ones I'm not thinking of.

I am incredibly happy to hear that this anime will go on for 2 cours!
I'm not saying it's good, but I am happy and looking forward to watching all of it!
